Yep I bought Cue Guru 002, I had to buy it really and I contacted Jason Owen as soon as I saw it listed on the forum. My thinking behind buying the cue was simple really, I buy the cue and if it plays well I keep it as a playing cue if it doesn't feel right I keep it for sentimental reasons having produced the badges for Jason's Cues. As it turned out there was another TSF member even quicker on the draw than I was but luckily that other person was a true gent and stepped aside (No begging or crying took place on my part despite anything you may hear!) Cheers Jaffa!
It arrived today nicely packaged and I excitedly opened the package and was instantly impressed with what I saw and more importantly felt.
The shaft is silky smooth and is one of the smoothest shafts I have played with, the grain has been picked out nicely revealing 6 evenly spaced chevrons.
The splicing is very good with even and nicely defined fingers and points.
Decorative veneers are good and the beautiful Cocobolo front splice shows that Jason has the ability to bring the best out of exotic woods and the badge really sets it all off but I would say that wouldn't I.
The club was the only place I was heading to straight from work as I just had to pot a few balls with this cue.
The cue was very nicely balanced and responsive on the Snooker table giving me good action on the cue ball remarkable considering this is just a 15oz cue. This particular cue at 57" is 1 1/4" shorter and is 2 1/2oz lighter than my normal snooker cue.
It was on the 8 Ball table that this cue come in to its own and has actually achieved the impossible in replacing my beloved 'stolen cue'.
Bottom line is that I didn't need to consider the possibility of this cue not feeling right or playing well. If Jason keeps producing Cue Guru Cues to this standard then it is to the benefit of all of us, players and cue lovers alike and at his current price point I feel he provides fantastic value for money.
