Mine is snakewood over maple. It's a really nice look.
Dad has amboyna burr, over a dark green veneer, which works brilliantly. I'd suggest if you can, hold off with the amboyna until you have a green veneer. Just my opinion, but personally I think it would look better. Up to you though, you're making it! Lol
If you want to play the pink, but you're hampered by the red, you could always try to play the brown!

Very nice. Similar to mine, but I've got 4 lower splices. To me, snakewood is an expensive classy, not gaudy!!
          A damn sexy cue!

Number 010 will be the first maple, Jaffa Johnson is having that but we are waiting until we can find some Maccassar.
I have a half dozen maple shafts that are in varying degrees of preparation.

hi, Not been making cues for long, about 5 months in total and so just trying to keep it simple for now, will move onto 4 lower splices and other more complex designs but want to gain confidence and ability at the simple stuff before getting too far ahead of myself.

You did not make any plain ebony cues, did you Jason? I made a lot of those and threw lots away when I first started. LOL.

I've not seen any two with the same pattern. They are nearly all single face splice over maple veneer, but that is where the similarity ends. Every cue has had a different splice wood (think he has used coco bolo twice, the first over maple and ebony veneers, the second over just maple), but each cue has been different, and are getting better every time.
The Thuya Burr and second Coco bolo cues are absolutely gorgeous. If I needed a cue, I would happily buy either of them, irrespective of price!
I can't wait to see the 4 secondary splice cues. If they are anything like the single splice cues, they will be something special!
