    yes i tend to go in with smaller drills now and work my way up,had a couple that split the splices earlier by drilling with a 10mm or more first time ouch

                    • Jim, Amboyna, I found its quite nice wood to work with, feels quite soft and cuts well under the plane. Nicer then Thuya, although I much prefer the look of thuya.
                      Are your black veneers proper ebony? I tried some dyed black 0.6 veneers and they ended looking like a bluey grey shade of black.

                      • its a struggle getting thin ebony i can get it 2mm thick never realy asked befor but think you can get 1mm or 1 1/2mm,ive bought a planer /thicknesser so i can do my own down to about 4mm and then sand a bit
