I did not go through with the Mastercraft quote because another cue came up on this forum that "I just had to have"! (the wife was out for the day )

The mini butt was what caught my eye (cue-porn again )when I first came across the maker's website (see http://dansheltoncues.com/gallery.html slide 77 to 81) and when the cue itself come up for sale - well that was it!
I do have a Dan Shelton cue on order but see the other thread on that subject (http://www.thesnookerforum.com/board...n-shelton-cues)
No I have not had a Mastercraft cue myself only got a quote, but a snooker-playing-acquaintance got one made after he had a chat with me one night - honest I gave him several options - and the cue if very nice indeed and plays very well.

ok good I've emailed the guy at mastercraft but still waiting to hear back keen to get this going and I'm not really sure how long it will take him to make the cue? I know he has just returned to office on the 9th of may as I recieved an out of office reply but just hoping I will hear back soon. I'm hoping his workshop is open on a saturday too as that's the only day I can travel to him!

I spoke to Chris (at Mastercraft) today (as I am after a tele-extension for the cue you have seen) and he did say they have not been in the shop and have loads of emails (mostly from me) and they are working their way through the pile.
They usually seem to quote 3-6weeks for a cue order and my friend's cue took just under 6 weeks

Jesus, This thread took some time to read over since I left it yesterday.

Are you going with a custom mastercraft then?

The thing to get right as the spec of the cue is length, tip, butt size, weight & balance.

The design is a different part of the spec.

There are many woods to choose from so going to the workshop will help as you can pick the woods yourself. The thing to remember is the more woods / design, the more money.

Standard cues will be a plain ebony butt say this costs £150. If you wanted a front splice and veneer, this is extra material and time so this is extra cost.

If you wanted 4 x secondary splices, again this is more material and a lot more time so more money again. you could go onto the a front splice on top of secondary splices and beyond all resulting in more money.

The design / look of the cue wont change the way it feels in your hand or the way it plays.

I suggest you read over www.handmadecues.com as this is very informative about all aspects of a cue. I also suggest you visit www.dunns-cues.com and look at the authentication section / custom gallery for many pictures of cues.

Lol....no that is 8 splices + 8 veneers.....that will be just about the highest price cue you could go for !!!

Look at this Mastercraft page and read all the descriptions carefully, it starts with a plain cue, then you get single front splice, eventually getting to the cue you linked to a minute a go, the more splices=more time=more money !

In a way the timber used for the secondary splices on a cue is ( sorry guys) just "eye candy".The shaft is what you play your shots with and the main splices e.g. ebony or rosewood,is what adds the weight/mass call it what you want and balance to your cue.It should make no difference whatsoever whether or not you have a plain shaft i.e. maple,pear or hornbeam OR a highly figured shaft ( loads of chevrons) such as ash or hickory.This is because you should not be looking at the shaft when you play your shot,you should be looking at the tip.Conversely if you are a "confidence player" there is nothing better in the world than taking a really nice cue out of its case at the club ,as if to say "now beat me".A plain ebony and ash cue from any of the top makers will play the same as an eight point multi-splice,exotic from the same maker.Apologies all round to people who are into "cue porn" I do assure you that I appreciate as much as the next man the quality and time invested in a multi-splice,work of art.
