you are after the diameter at the widest part, i.e. not from the flat if it has one.
Usually use a caliper scale if you have one, careful not to scratch the cue
        Up the TSF! :snooker:

Sorry lol, if you measure around it, that would be circumerence which is different, but could be easier to measure if your using a dressmaking type tape (ie bendy fabric thing)
For diameter you need to measure across it

But if you do measure around it C = Pi x D, so D (diameter) = C (circumference) divided by 3.142 (Pi)
So if around it was 93mm say, 93 divided by 3.142 = 29.6mm diameter .....did you follow that ? lol

Yeah that could be an expensive mistake ! I think JP's stock cues are around 30mm

You could use digital calipers and vernier... but depending on your cue's butt size ( complete with clear photos ), some ppl won't believe you

Here you go, copied from JP's site

The butt diameter is the measurement across the very end of the butt from side to side NOT around the outside. The most popular butt diameter is 30mm this suits most players and is the standard size we make the Parris Collection cues.

                    As a guide
                    27mm is very slim
                    28mm to 28.5mm is slim
                    29mm to 30mm is medium
                    31mm is thick
                    32mm is very thick.
