  • Smoothing a cue??

Hi guys, newbie here, Just picked up my first 'proppa' cue, a cue craft 3/4, is there any way I can smooth the cue, without wrecking it??

If it is new, very slightly damp soft cloth wash down cue, dry kitchen towel to dry cue, more kitchen towel vigorously buff the cue,
    buff with dry soft cloth.
This should be enough for a new cue and will not "wreck it"
    Up the TSF! :snooker:

Do not wash it!!! If it is new, it should already be smooth. If it is sticky, then wipe with a hardly damp cloth, then a dry one. Do not wet the cue.
My TW is 7 months old now and never had any cloth on it, yet. But, I do not have damp hands.

Thanks for the replies guys, The cue isn't new, I bought it 2nd hand, after reading advice on here to get the best I could afford. It is about a year old, and has only been played twice as it didn't suit the previous owner, It is in great condition, just feels a bit rough on the shaft, so was hoping to smooth it somehow.

you can sand the shaft down with very fine grit sand paper.finishing off with 1000,2000 or even 3000 grit.but be very careful not to sand accross the grain i.e. twist the sandpaper round the shaft.ONLY SAND IN LINE WITH THE GRAIN.then finish with cue oil and buff to a shine.this only applies to "oiled" cues,if it has a varnish finish there are other threads on the forum which cover removing the varnish. i think a varnished cue will allways feel "sticky"

Sanding the cue down and refinishing with oil is the best way.

If you dont feel confident in doing this then why not spend the money on getting it done professional.

Where abouts are you in the country?

Jaffa thanks for the response, I am near Cardiff in South Wales, I think I may struggle to afford a professional refinish/polish, and dont want to be without the cue for a long time, I hear Trevor White is local, but has a long waiting list, and his experience/name doesn't come cheap.

Email Trev and ask him. He is a good bloke and will tell you if there is any chance of doing it soon and the cost. One things is for sure, you will get a nice cue back and probably not have to wait too long. It does not cost anything to ask.
