Hi all.
I posted a wanted ad for cues and so far I have 3 choices which are all good cues and in my price range:
1, Tony Ions 1pc with minibutt and screw in telescopic extension. Decent ash shaft and Ebony butt. Pros; Handmade and one of a kind. Cons: Slight warp and taper not perfect. I would have the tip reduced anyway as I play pool so this could be rectified.
2, Mastercue 1pc. Ash shaft, best grain of the 3 options. Ebony butt with maple veneer and 2 secondary front splices. Nice looking cue. Pros; Nice attractive cue. Cons; Doesnt have that 'one of a kind' made in UK status.
3, Welsh pool trading 1pc. Nice Ash shaft, plain Ebony butt. Pros; Recently re-finnished and looking lovely. Stainless 9mm ferrule with MW supertip. Wont need altering much. Cons; Cheesy badge with 8 ball symbol, it just just niggles me a bit. Looks tacky. No minibutt or SD join.
All 3 are decent to be honest. I really cant decide! The Tony Ions seems best value but will cost a bit to have altered and the shaft sorted out. The Mastercue has a nice butt design but again will cost a bit to have the Tip size changed. The Welsh pool is the only one that is ready top play with and apart from the cheesy badge it looks the most expensive due to its exellent finnish.
At the moment I seem to be leaning toward the Tony Ions but I know nothing about this cue maker or what its real value is. Plus its going to cost me a bit to get it sorted out to my liking. Saying that all 3 have slightly bigger tips that I'm used to so whichever cue I get I'll probably get it altered soon enough. Allthough the Ions is the one Im leaning toward they are all great cues for the money. I would say if I had to put one of them in second place it would be the Welshpool due to its stunning finnish and the fact it has a stainless ferrule and MW tip.
Would be great if I could see each one in person and even hit a few balls to see which had the best feel. This isnt easy, I can see myself with a collection of unused cues in the near future!!
