  • 147 cue designs

    Hi,
Had a few conversation with a member on here about a design for a 147 themed cue.

He suggested having 15 red splices.

I was thinking about 15 red veneers with very thin black separators and then the 6 colours in veneers all going up as a front splice.

So...what design would you have for the number 147 cue?

A "147" cue for me would be ebony with multiple red veneers in a "nothing but reds and blacks" style.

There is a stunning TW cue that has a similar look but with added Cocobolo too. I always thought of that cue as a possible "666"

What about a checkerboard effect as a single front splice of black and red squares. Then you could have whatever veneer and secondary splice pattern you wanted,as well as whatever main splice ( butt) you wanted.

See #23 of Dan Shelton's gallery for a very close to your idea. I believe Dan got Dave Coutts to do the chequered sheet, I may be wrong.
My choice, I would have a board of 2x15 squares (or a square as possible) of alternating Red and Black, on a maple veneer on rosewood butt.

I sort of agree with DeanH here. If it's possible, how about a splice with red/black lines across it for 15 times and then the 6 colours as further sideways stripes. Just the one splice though as I figure this might be time consuming to do and thus a little expensive for the buyer.

I also believe that it was a piece of Dave Coutts ,what can only be described as , artwork.

Is there a green wood out there which could be the main butt?

If so then I would have the green wood as a the table / cloth and then a checkered / lined front splice of 15 reds and blacks.

Front splice to have a yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black veneer.

hi jason forgot to add putting onto a thick green veneer then onto a brown veneer to represent cloth and table, also thought about a maple veneer to highlight it what you think

Do you think the grain directions would cause a problem? could always sand it to finish eh.
