  • Has anyone bought a cue from Green Baize, if so whats your opinions ?

I like the look of the Green Baize website and the range of cues that they do, the C1 Plain Ebony 3/4 cue took my eye as thats the type of cue that i'm after in style, its basically a plain ebony butt with no go faster stripes down the side

Has anyone bought a cue from Green Baize and if so what has been your overall experience of both the cue and the service. I'm just trying to decide if its worth a 2 hour trip up to Stockton, i don't mind driving that sort of distance for the right cue and service.

Hotpot rates these 'GBL' cues and says they are the best cue available for the money bar none..

And he's had more cues than the average bear like...lol.

The cue hotpot had was a cracker fairplay.

Ive had 5 cues from Stu at Green Baize, 2 master Cues, 1 Mike Wooldridge and the latest 2 were his own GBL's. Just changed from 1 piece maple to 3/4 ash. I believe that they are the best value for money out there, very staright grain on the ash and superb maple shafts. Quality is right up there with MW, and well ahead of master cue, craftsman, and omins.

If you can get down to his shop you can spend as long as you like testing them out before you buy.

After a four month local and internet search for a replacement cue, a friend recomended Green Baize. After a few phone chats with Stuart, I drove the Four hour each way trip to Green Baize from Watford. The staff at Green Baize would have let me try any or every cue, tip and accessories, in the three hours spent there, until I found the perfect cue, Stu on hand with advice at any time if needed and the lowest cost possible. The after sales service I have not needed, but have not heard any negative comments. I could not recomend this company any higher and would advise anyone to give them a try, even if it's just a phonecall. This was one of the best decisions I made and you will not regret it.
P.S. Don't be suprised if your perfect cue is not the cue you thought it was.

i have been down to the greenbaize shop once and also has stu send me a cue up by courier. i think they are real good cues and easily comparable to the osborne black plates and hunt and obyrne black plates which i have had in the past. since i bought mine around january/february this year another 4 guys from the club i play in in glasgow have gone down, 3 got gbl cues and one got a master cue, 1 also bought a leather case from stu which is top quality. i would definately recommend going to the shop in person as if ou like cues its like heaven! upward of 400 cues and its in a snooker club so can easily try the cues out and if your not happ with tips stu will change them while you try other cues out, as other posts state stu is a top guy!

I've written a positive review on Green Baize forum which you can read.

Nothing but praise for Stu and his service.

                      Just my little experience

I have never been to Green Baize as I live in Australia. But a friend of my has ordered a Master cue off Stu a few month back, excellent service!! I have just ordered a 1 piece GBL C4 a week ago (because the ebony of my mastercraft cracked after 2 months usage...), received it within a week and it is a fantastic cue, looks great, feels great, hit great. The finish is much better than my old cue! Not to forget that Stu is a really nice chap. That was a very good experience! I also fancy C1 at the first place, but out of stock...I think Stu stocks only a small amount of C1...Hope it helps

I was considering buying a custom made cue from Mastercraft, now you are making me worried.
I have sent the splicing design and specification to Tony Wilshaw, i think he is a better maker than master craft as he made and repaired cues for many top pros.
but green baize dosent seem bad either, the question is can they make a really good quality custom cue with best ash, and how long do i have to wait?
                        any suggestions?

Mastercraft makes very good cue, the cue I had feels good and all the specs were made exactly to what I asked for, but the splices were not even tho. Regarding the cracked ebony (it was near the joint), I think it might just me not being careful with the cue. I asked Stu to make a 59inches C1 for me back in September, at the time, he said custom cue would not be ready until July, so I ordered a Trevor White instead.

I would say, if you want a cue in standard specs, go for GBL; if you want custom cue with limited budget, go for Mastercraft; if your budget is unlimited, there are many other good cue makers out there but personally I like MW, Trevor and Aurora.

The Trevor White that I have is brilliant in every way you can think of a cue. It's a shame that it is not stiff enough for me, so I have just ordered another one with no hesitation. I always wanted to order an Aurora cue, but Airin didn't have time to cut a shaft thats long enough for my specs.

its just my little experience, hope it helps

I would love to buy a Mike Wooldridge cue, i designed the cue and the estimate i got was £900, but actually its not the price but the waiting time which puts me off as i am leaving UK soon.

How long is the waiting time for MW? any idea?

The biggest advantage with a retailer like Green Baize is that Stu stocks 100's of quality hand made cues from GBL, Master Cue, Omin, Cue Craft amongst others and most are of a standard'ish spec which can be altered if you want something a little different.

If it's at all possible you can visit the shop (worth travelling too) and try before you buy (snooker hall joined to shop) for free which allows for you test drive many cues to find that perfect shaft feel that an unlikely single custom made cue can give you and the chances of finding a cue that's right for you are much greater than with a custom made one.

I'm not saying that you might not get a perfect custom cue that playes just right but the chances are a lot more remote and it probably explains why there are so many quality custom made cues for sale used.

I'm pretty sure that Stu will also allow you to return a cue if not satisfied as long as it's in the same condition as it went out and allow for you to change it but best discuss this with him.

Why not give him a ring or arrange a vist.
