  • Centre-Jointed 2-piece Cue Wanted

Let me apologize to anyone outside of Canada first off as I'm looking for a 2-piece but I don't want to pay the shipping plus taxes for something from overseas (unless the overall price is still reasonable and it can be shipped with low value so I can avoid the taxes).

Recently when I flew to the UK, British Airways charged me 80pounds for my cue and case as they are not listed under their definition of 'sporting equipment' (right peed off about that although they tell me I should have checked first. My response was 'who knew?).

Anyway, I have a large suitcase which will take a centre-joined 2-piece cue so I can avoid that charge in the future. So, if any Canadian on here has a decent centre-jointed 2-piece cue with ash shaft, around 18oz, ferrule 9.4mm or greater, butt diameter at 29mm (no larger) and 57" in length BUT MUST HAVE AN SD BUTT SOCKET WITH EXTENSIONS!!! (because I like having a mini-butt)

Don't care what the butt looks like, plain black ebony or 24 splices and 36 veneers and I also don't mind if the shaft has a slight wow in it as I can straighten that out pretty quick.

My budget is flexible so just give me your price (although I will admit I'm not looking to spend a lot of bucks here)

    Thanks all,
    Terry

I only read things that appear on "New Posts" and I saw this thread yesterday. Now, Terry won't see it until someone replies, as the forum will assume he knows about his own new thread and wont list it as 'new'

OK, thanks cally. I didn't realize you had to wait for a response before it appeared. I liked the old system better as I think most people are like nrage and only check the new posts

Hard luck Terry! Better check with other airlines for a cheaper rate or send one of your cues to a friend in the UK for storage.

It showed up "for me" in new posts, but it wont show up "for you" until someone replies. The system knows I haven't seen your initial post/thread, and it knows you have - because you posted it. New posts only shows things "you" haven't seen.

I think my solution is a centre-jointed cue which will fit in my large bag although if I'm coming for a tournament I would still prefer to bring my 3/4 TW (had a 107 yesterday with it). I think this might be just British Airways as I flew Air Canada the year before and it was considered sporting equipment by them and I didn't have to pay.

So British Airways has lost my business and from now on I will check the airlines first to see if there's a charge and if there is then I may bring the centre-jointed cue in my luggage.

I can get a decent cue here (with mini-butt) for about $300(CAN) which works out to around 180pounds but I would like to find out if there's anything out there at around that price as this cue made here does not come with a butt socket which would take a long extension since it's there own design and they only do the mini-butt.

Can't you bring the cue to any cuemaker in the UK to get the butt joint added?

Yes I could but I won't be coming to Britain for awhile and usually I don't hire a car so I would have to take the train from Gloucester I guess

Could Arin (pooljunkie) at Aurora cues help you out?

                        DeanH:

GOOD IDEA!!! and I apologize to Airin as it didn't dawn on me at all. I have asked a local cuemaker to see what his quote will be but he doesn't do a standard SD butt socket, just his own with a mini-butt.

But Airin can do a real SD butt socket and that might be the way to go although I know he's extremely busy, but I will email him on the off-chance he may have something in stock he can modify to suit.
