Black graphite powder yeah? What do you mix it with and that'll level the cue or just blacken the grain?
Just the tips of my fingers trig up an down the arrows and feeling the ripples.

i just rub it all over the cue leave for a min or two then using linseed oil take most of the powder off leave over night buff and repeat !!!! works fine for me maybe you should try using a wooden block when sanding or try different grades of sandpaper working your way up !!
