  • Cannon cue, any value? see pics

    IMG_6185.jpgIMG_6164.jpgIMG_6197.jpgIMG_6178.jpgIMG_6160.jpg

Have this cannon cue, prob fairly old? In pretty good condition considering age. Looks to me to be handspliced with macassar ebony??? and yellow and green veneers

Has a wooden case to go with it too. 57", 10.5mm tip, 29mm butt, around 17.5/18oz

Do these cues have any value? Thinking about using it for pool and having it tapered down, also the joint may need replacing or re setting as it makes a slight clunky sound on some shots.

Dont want to spend money on it though if its only worth a fiver? Especially as i may have the work done and not get on with it anyway.

Thanks in advance if anyone knows anything about these cues.

    Steve.

I havn't seen that style of badge before, looks quite a nice cue. Fashion dictates however centre split cues don't have a great value, but using it for pool as you say could be ideal for you, altho would be a shame to taper it

They did cost around £90-140 around 20 years ago (depending on the model) when I got mine so if it is in decent condition I would imagine it is not too bad a cue and has a fair value.
I think they are made in China now and not as good.

Here is the badge on my old cue, slightly different to this one but must be the same makers.

sorry its a peradon cue actually - because its centre split i expect it would only fetch £70-80 - but you should not really taper it down it would be a shame.

I agree would be a shame to mess about with it, going to have to sell it as i get moaned enough about keeping the cues i do use lol.

The cue is in very decent condition considering the age, there are a couple of minor things, there is a slight clunky noise on some shots which i think is probably the joint. The joint is quite strange as it seems a solid one but the (i dont know the proper name of these parts) threaded tenon and the hole in the other side are not dead centre so when you are doing the cue up the two parts dont stay lined up they overlap slightly as they spin round but they obviously line up when the joint is tight.

There is also a vey small dint on the shaft above the splices but not major and sure could be easily sorted by someone that knows what they are doing.

Finally the end part of the shaft looks a little duller than the rest where it may have been sanded or where some chalk dust has taken out the finish and a little of the grain, again easliy rectified would do it myself if keeping it but dont was to mess with it if letting it go.

These things are all minor though and the cue is really nice, the wood on the butt looks really good and has a nice feel, the shaft has some really nicely spaced chevrons too although they dont line up with the flat of the badge.

So far best offer seems to be £50 if that offer still stands, i'm also happy to swap for something pool spec if anyone has anything.

                        Cheers, Steve.

Perhaps i should have put this in the selling thread!

Nice looking cue. Shame it is jointed.

I have a pool spec cue for sale. PM for details.

The cannon range of today I am pretty sure is made out of china, its it painted/ebonised butts and varnished finished.

The 2 cues I have had played steady and consisted pretty stiff shafts.

I stripped one of the varnish, new ferrule and tip, oiled and plays a dream. My mate who bought the cue still uses it on most occasions.

This cue is definately not a painted chinese version, its an older english made one. Also the cue is not varnished, dont know if its because its been re finished or whether it's original.
