  • Another shaftwood question

Can anyone tell me if the shaftwood of this cue is unsteamed Pearwood? I believe that this may be the case but I have a niggling doubt that it could possibly be maple.......

    Thanks!

Difficult to say. A steamed pear wood cue would be a pink/brown colour, but it does have a similar grain pattern (the chevrons/circles) that are quite hard to see, like what is in the first picture.
Other types of wood it could be if not pearwood or maple are hornbeam, (although this has a looser grain than pear maple) or even hickory.
Do you know what make/type of cue it is? This might be able to help someone a bit more experienced identify it for you, as certain brands used certain woods, and avoided others.
    Dean.
If you want to play the pink, but you're hampered by the red, you could always try to play the brown!
