  • How to buy a cue w/o testing it?

Greetings all the way from Malaysia,
I'd like to ask for some advice on what cue should I buy if I were to shop online in stores such as ebay.co.uk. Currently, I'm using a CM1 3128 Handmade Cue (As written on the butt). Bought this cue 4 years ago when I started to gain interest in snooker. It has a glossy finish and a 9mm tip. I dont know how much it weights but I can be sure of one thing, which is that it is the heaviest among all the cues I've held. There is no info available on this model online, so I reckon it must be a cheap common 3/4 cue. Converted to GBP, I bought it for around 50pounds.

I'm planning to change my cue to something better (or different) as I find the weight a bit too heavy and there is no socket at the butt for me to add on extensions. There isnt much snooker cue importers over at M'sia. The only brands that are common here are Omin and CM1. The snooker centre that I play in, however, has got some John Parris 1 piece house cues. I particularly like the feel of it. I can "feel" the grains on the surface. Since there isnt any article that I could find between the physical differences of an Ash vs Maple cue, I dont even know what wood my current cue is made of!

My budget, currently, would be approximately 50-70GBP ( poor student I am ). As there is no way I could have tested any of the cues sold online, are there any specific models or brand to look out for within that price range?

for instance, this "jian ying" cue seems to be a value buy with the extensions and all for that price. But are they any good compared to the more reputable brands of this price range?

Sorry for my long-winded post. I love snooker and I love this forum. Wanna hear more from all you snooker enthusiasts from the other side of the world!

    Thanks

Hello there If only these were genuine Parris cues eh, it would be heaven
I'm guessing they are some sort of Chinese counterfeits ????

yeah that was what I was thinking when I browse around the forums and look at the price of jp cues! Haha sorry my knowledge on these brands are very minimal. I've never heard of 8/10 brands mentioned in this forum :S

Lol... JP house cues... that's a first!!

Hi Orenzai, cues are quite personal and my advice is to buy from a reputable source. I'm not saying that all cues listed on ebay are no good, but I won't take the risk buying from an unknown seller. Other snooker accessories maybe, but not cues as I'm quite finicky that way.

I find that Thai cues are good value for money. There's O'min, Mastercue and they've been in the scene for quite a while... there seems to be a few newer Thai cue brands emerging, e.g. King, Praram, Phoenix... looks good too... Since you are from Malaysia, you might have already visited this website: www.originalomin.com

If you can afford it, there are quite a few established UK cue makers who's got superb craftsmanship... a few of them are forum members too.

Browse around this forum a bit. You'll get an idea of who are the reputable sellers or cue makers and you can make a better, more informed decision on what cue to buy.

        Good luck...

Hey guys im back. Still deciding on which cue to buy. I've been eyeing one "jian ying" and "mr-cue" which are both produced from HK and judging by the way the items are displayed on ebay, it suggest they come from the same factory.

          http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Top-5-Face...item2313e2bf5c
          Jian Ying

          http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2508764319...84.m1438.l2649
          Mr-cue

These cues attract me despite their credibility and it provides free postage compared to all other items on ebay UK.

I'm also looking out for Omin cues. This might be a bit of a stretch but can any M'sian members point me to the right shops in KL to test out some decent cues? If its reputable, online will do. I have a budget of about 100GBP or RM500.

Hi Orenzai ~~ greeting from Malaysia ~~ ^^

Since you are in KL.. why not go to Original Omin .. they have good quality cues there.
They sell mostly Omin. Price maybe you can negotiate with JH Leong.
As of my opinion, since you ady got RM500.. better not waste it on lousy cues. Maybe you just need to add rm100-200 to get a Omin Classic model. Is anytime better than the cue you are showing and using right now.

Omin Classic is handmade and affortable .. and other models would be Omin Climax.
Price varies from every seller.. you need to search see..

Those JP house cues you use are all from China .. around my place also got a few..

Get him to clean up after himself as it can bleach the baize.

Only just read this. My first thought was I hope he'll clean it up after! hahaha

If you want to play the pink, but you're hampered by the red, you could always try to play the brown!

I'm from Malaysia too but I live in Holland.

Definitely get an O'min. I use one and it's a perfectly excellent cue.
