I agree mate, when a Phoenix hits the ball, it stays hit. What tip are you using? I've found that with an O'min/Talisman, I can nearly crack the balls in half. Crisp doesn't describe it. Mine is medium stiff, but it still cracks the balls. I'm suited to lacquered cues, my old one being a powerglide and there is more grip. Glass finishes apply more friction on contact, rather than a matt finish like oiled wood. That was why I was asking, I almost feel there is too much grip sometimes. It would be quite easy to refinish but cleaning and looking after an oiled butt is gonna be more hassle than a damp cloth on a Phoenix. Perhaps it's the clammy weather at the moment, making things feel different. Hmmm.

Anyway, a clearance is a clearance, that's the proof of the pudding.

Well i was hoping to find out about that for myself with Mike's offer of discounted cues to spread the word of "blackspin", but he seems to be dragging his arse

I have had one Robin Cook cue so far and that was amazing too, and have just heard today that my new one will be with me very soon

at this standard you could do it with any cue. the improvement is in the mind!

Wise words, i think i'm gonna get my head down when the new cue arrives, plenty of solo practice something ive never had chance to do for a long while, always playing serious mini comps so always pressure shots. If no improvement i might have a couple of lessons from Jim Donnelly, he visits my club every 2nd weekend. My problem is definitely shot selection, knowing how to hold for the black etc, i have a tendancy to go up for pink/blue far too much

I have got 2 phoenix cues, a 1 pc master and a 3/4 supreme. Both are fantastic cues, just thought I'd add a few images so any prospective buyers can see the kind of quality they can expect.

I would have to disagree with you there bud, I've had the pleasure of playing with a few TW and his finish on his cue are exquisite and second to none and I'm sure a few would agree with me on here, and I would imagine MW cues are the same!!
Sorry coomsey but gonna pull you on that as I bought a Trevor White cue off you and about 6 weeks later I bought a Phoenix off ebay.
When the Phoenix arrived I stood it against the TW and the quality was the same except for the laquered butt which I like.
I'd go as far to say the Phoenix had a better shaft lol!!
As smooth as the TW dark tight straight grain, all four splices even and four lovely evenly spaced chevrons to die for.
TW was up for sale within the week!
Like it or not it's all about those cues/shafts coming out of Thailand at the moment......infact for sometime now.

Have you ever had a brand new Trevor White cue? I have and the finish is better than anything else i have owned (including Phoenix) Have to say the O'min cue i had was about the closest though.

Don't need to own a brand new one to know the finish when you have friends/people you know having TW cues from new who are good enough to let you have butchers and go of.

Fair enough mate...... As they say beauty lies in the eye of the beholder!! Lol.

Trouble i though imo, people get too hung up on how a shaft looks and how many chevrons it has etc...... When the important thing is how it plays!!

Glad you've finally found the one that suits you bud.....

There are more than 25 cuemakers who can make a good custommade cue . (Theoretically !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)))).
But there are perhaps only three cuemakers who can make a real perfect cue. (Playblty and Craftsmsp).
If you want this cue then you have to pay for it !!!!!. I'm talking about the prices +1000 pounds. Like custommade MW or David Coutts.
Thai cues plays very well. But they does'nt come even close to the perfect cue.
If you pay £ 250 for a cue and you think he's 100 percent handmade (Button and the shaft). then in my opinion, you are naive!!!
