I have used coutts oil on saturday. Leaves a lovely finish very smooth and seems to bring out grain just a little darker, better than linseed oil on its own imho. Not tried mw oil leo but would recommend coutts.

It would be very difficult to reduce by 0.5mm and not get a good result. I think what more interesting is the thought process and reasons behind the reduction and more importantly whether or not the reduction produces the desired results.

I suspect that any vegetable oil is probably OK. The trick is not to use too much. To help with that a bit of a volatile organic solvent as a thinner is added so that you are applying less of the oil.

Years ago I worked in a bank. Before knocking on the manager's door we had to look through a door viewer to see if he had anybody with him. The door was beautifully french polished but just near the spy hole there was a spot where one's nose touched when using the spyhole. That point was absolutley gorgeous. I think it was the application of the grease from people's skin over the course of years.
