When I have to send stuff that sort of shape I usually pack it very securely in a piece of water pipe. Plastic pipe is almost for free. In fact if you tell the guy at the builders' merchant why you want it probably will be for free. It adds almost no extra weight and very little extra bulk.

I like the idea of using plumbing pipe. Can get some nice thick strong stuff.

That is a great price, I checked out a local hardware store and the same thing they are selling for about 6-7 GBP each. Are you talking about the PVC or ABS tubes?

Glad you got insurance though and hopefully the process wont take to long.
Is it possible to repair the cue?
Are you going to get a new one made?
Well it looks like the insurance might not pay out. As it was a private sale I have no Sales Invoice which they're insisting on as I don't have the original invoice from eleven years ago when the cue was made. Parris Cues are sending me an insurance valuation but from what I've been told they won't accept it so will have to wait and see what happens. Needless to say I will be seeking legal advice if this is the case.

Here's the picture they sent me when they first informed me that there was some "damage to the tip"

In the mean time I popped down the road to see Dave at Mastercraft who just happened to have this lying around . . It was one of his half finished 'experiments' which means he was bored one day so decided to have a play around. Luckily for me he did it on a really nice shaft and gave me a great trade-in for my broken cue so in three weeks when it's finished I'll have a nice unique cue with 32 maple and ebony splices . . I still won't be able to pot a ball but it'll look the part

I would suggest it is standard PVC waste pipe. The push fit type used to take waste water from the sink to the drain. In a plumbers merchant it is just called waste pipe and was standard at 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" .

No problem Airin , glad to help.As an addendum " The Home Depot " chain in Canada ( I checked Toronto ) do Ipex branded PVC pipe 32mm x3m at about $6.19 . By my reckoning that is about $3.10 per 1.5m length (59") i.e 3m cut in half ( this would equate to about £2 stirling at the current exchange rate ) 1.5m would easily do one cue.Perhaps with a little research you may find something similar near to your hometown, perhaps even cheaper if you buy in bulk.Obviously 32mm may be a bit tight but 40mm should be fine if you can source it.Dont know about local taxes or shipping either.Hope this helps.

Another idea is buy two pipes, where one can fit inside the other? This will make it much stronger, whilst remaining lightweight?

I'm sure this wouldn't do it any harm either -

If you want to play the pink, but you're hampered by the red, you could always try to play the brown!

splinting it with a piece of 2" by 1" doesn't add much to the cost and stops the tube flexing.
No one is listening until you make a mistake!

Golden Sorry to hear of your loss. I'm sending my cue off to Mastercraft on Monday and am using Gwizz. You've got me worried now as I took out the insurance and wasn't thinking there would be a problem getting paid out. Also I suppose the cue could just as easily be damaged on the return journey. Do you know if Mastercraft insure the item?
Looking at your pictures it seems you used a cardboard tube? Am I right? Cardboard tubes are just not strong enough. The 40mm pipe from B&Q at £2.00 is an absolute minimum IMO. If you've got a more valuable cue then B&Q do 50mm plastic pipe for about £6.50. This allows for more bubble wrap.

If you have the original sales receipt, or can at least obtain a copy of said receipt there won't be a problem. The problem I have is because I don't have the original sales receipt and can't get a copy of it what with it being eleven years old.

At the moment the claim is being processed with CityLink but they only cover £10 per kilo. Only once that claim has gone through CityLink (which takes up to four weeks) will Gwizz then claim with their third party insurers, Marine Cargo Insurance (which is where your £1 went) which I've been told by Gwizz won't pay out on the claim without the original sales receipt.

According to Gwizz, obtaining an insurance valuation from Parris Cues (which still hasn't arrived two weeks after asking for it) won't suffice which I find absurd. Unfortunately I have to wait for a final decision before seeking legal advice.

Having seen the damage to the cue and tube, it looks like it's been driven over with a fork lift as I can't see what else could exert that much force to snap the cue in the way it's been done. So, whilst I have since learned about what to use to post cues, it wouldn't have mattered what it was sent it short of a metal tube

As for Mastercraft I'd be extremely surprised if they didn't insure the items they send out.
