      1blonde:

See my answer in post #21. No harm in trying as long as I can re-sell if I don't like what I get.

      Matty:

I believe he would be looking for a lot (too much for me) and besides he is a keen player and is using the cue to the exclusion of his other cue, which is very very nice TW that he's thinking about selling.

matt - no price - it's in someone's private collection - if it was on the market, i suspect he'd be asking close to 2k quid.

I guess it must be better than paying big bucks for a painting. My wife does glass art and some of her landscapes go for $2,500+.

But I'm in agreement that cues were meant to be played with rather than hung on a wall and stared at.

What we will see is the collectors who are investing in cues for future sales will drive the price of really good cues to where the average person will not be able to afford them. I can understand Will Hunt and Robert Osborne selling into China where they can get 1.500GBP (at least) for their cues rather than the 800GBP or so they get when selling in other countries.

unclear whether the collectors play with them - i guess some of them do and some of them don't. dealers say around 70% of all black plates and JPUs above #1200 are now in china.

terry, do as the romans do then - bump the price up to $5,000 and sell them to china - and buy your cue with the difference. you need to market correctly though. there's a trick to selling stuff at a premium in china - they love taking photos with prominent people. for example, george bush's younger brother neil bush is trying to sell oil exploration rights in texas at 150k USD a share - included in the package, you get to take an autographed photo with george w. bush and if you take more than one share, you also get to take an autographed photo with george bush senior (the father). people pay the 150k not because they want to invest but because they get to take pics with the bushes.

I don't get any say or to touch any of the money coming from the glass art so I'm out of the picture. She did have 3 pieces in an international show in Korea a year ago and did get some orders from Korea and Japan but so far nothing from China. I guess I'll have to get her website 'jerredavidsonglass.com' out to the Chinese market somehow.

In the meantime I almost got caught by the 'Hunt & Obyrne' cue website but then realized it wasn't Will Hunt and canceled the order a few minutes ago.

I'm still looking for some kind of Will Hunt cue at a reasonable (OK, the Chinese will call me a cheapo!) price but I will also be trying some other one-piece cues from Stu at Green Baize for starters and then there's a new cuemaker out there who will be making me one and also have a preliminary order into Aurora and TW for one-piece cues.

Is this a secret cuemaker just for you Terry or can you tell all who this mystery maker is?

                              DeanH:

It's 'The Doctor' on here (Richy) but he's just starting out and has some 1-piece cues in his first run. He may not be up to a TW, MW or RC or JP but I don't really care what the butt work is like as the only things important to me in a cue are the shaft flex and the feel of the butt in my hand.

So if the shaft is nice and smooth and the butt is smooth and at 29mm then I'll be happy and also the pricing is very good since he's trying to build his reputation. So once I get the cue from him I will put up an evaluation on here if I get a positive result.

best of luck and hope you find the cue to your needs.
