        • A lot of people jump on the bandwagon Jim....if something is put in place maybe this can be avoided if it ever happens again. The biggest selling outlet is ebay millions of members if your not happy security is in place to protect the buyers...., In my view a cue that fetch anything more than £300 i would want it made by one of guys who have a proven record for first class work....

          • Appreciate what your saying Mike and it's good that he sounds positive, but its nothing we haven't heard before. Also it would be nice if he could find a few minutes to contact his customers with outstanding orders himself.I'm sure he will have their contact details from their efforts to contact him one way or another.

Thanks again for your help in trying to get Dan out of this predicament he has got himself in

            • Everyone appreciates your sentiment mike but the reality of this situation is i havnt had a phone. All text or email off him in a year and a half or any form of apology. This is bad business but also bad manners and i for one have run out of Patience and understanding.Sorry

if it's any consolation, i think he's been a c*nt too, and have told him more than once...

and you don't have to apologise to me, do what you want to do, i understand how you feel.

all i'm reporting is he has no money, so the original cue order delivered is your only real chance of getting closure.

                • Well if he has no money and no chance of actually getting anywhere in which to start up again what are the realistic chances of any of these customers of his to receive their cues? Not only that but I doubt he's interested in cues anymore so the quality of the work won't be with the same passion that he originally had so people might end up with cues the quality you might see in the rack at your local club.

I think if it were me I'd just be very careful about choosing to buy a cue off a one man band or someone looking to start up themselves. Reputation is everything is business, he hasn't just ruined his but also those going it alone on this site too and many won't want to risk the same thing happening again as there is just no protection for the customer anymore.

                  • Well, not being funny but people paying up front for a cue in FULL from such a new 'hobby maker' was a bit silly to start with...

Sad to see that dan is still struggling so long after all this started though...

Hope things pick up and you get back on your feet soon dan...

Would agree and disagree. You have to give people a chance otherwise how do you build a reputation but its how you conduct yourself plays a big part in building a goid rep. On the other hand all this mucking about meant i went out and bought a cue off Mike which probably meant i ended up with a better cue anyway but again it shows that if your good at what you do AND you treat people properly thats when you end up with a stella reputation.

it's quite realistic. he has the wood and just needs to find somewhere to work.

not true. he's very keen to get back to where he was and that's what i was trying to convey in my post.

not saying that will actually happen, but that's the situation.

                        • Cally's right. We love buying cues from various makers but the transient TSF community is too prone to this kind of pathetic cue making 'ponzi scheme'. A registration process would probably be a pain for Ferret but we could at least have prominent warnings against paying full-up front prices for custom orders.

Something needs to be done for the reputation of TSF and I wonder how much longer it's going to take....
                          Tear up that manure-fed astroturf!

                            • A somewhat simple solution would be to only allow new cue makers to charge a deposit (of up to £100) up front. This would limit the damage. Plus John Parris does it so it can't be a too bad model.

                              • And Robin Cook doesn't charge any deposit
I think unless you are ordering some weird design or very strange specs there should be no need to pay up front at all !!
Because of long waiting lists, if original buyer pulls out i'm sure the maker can sell the cue no problem at all
