No disrespect to you or JRC but from what I hear he's not lacking business so much as the time to complete orders. I just thought that if this was widely known it might just increase the volume of emails to deal with, increase waiting times and leave him with cues to sell that he otherwise would not have needed to.

            • Hmmm can I add as a newbie novice cue maker, a few points...

              1. Ive not used the TSF as a source for incoming orders, facebook and my own original cue guru site provide me with much more enquiries and orders than TSF. I post on TSF because its nice to get some feedback, its encouraging and very motivational to see what people think and (for the same reason I set up the cue guru site) people like to see pics of cues and how they are made.

              2. I take a £70 deposit. Ive had at least 10 people so far order a cue and never produce the deposit, and thus I dont proceed with the order. Now without a deposit I would have made 10 cues, not all at widely desired specs.

              3. In the last month I have seen 3 of my cues on ebay and all sold for over £300, and yet Ive made it no secret that I charge £260 for the basic designs. ive even ebayed a cue myself and it made £100 more than I would have charged for it. So the resale value is pretty good, in fact its a bloody good investment!! As Mr Wooldridge has said to me a few times now...Who is the C**t, them for selling it on or you for selling it too cheap?!

              4. Dan is a one off, he got caught by the bug and took on too much. Alot came from overseas and they do like to throw cash at you. Im not going to comment on Dan's behavior but i do know exactly what pressure he would have been under to accept orders from anyone and everyone. To give you an idea, the overseas buyers will want to order 10 cues at a time and then stick £1000 in your account without question.

              5. Its all about control, I take on orders I can make and give lead times I know I can achieve. I close my order book when I have 5 cues to make. I charge a price I feel is acceptable for the reputation and quality I can produce.

Dont think there is any blame to be laid at TSF's door, Dan has created this problem, totally unintentionally im sure, circumstances and pride no doubt have got the better of him.

              • Clearly its all gone Pete Tong for Dan.

My question is, what did he do with the deposit money? Or is he sat on lots of wood just waiting to be made into cues?

From my own experience, I imagine he gave it all to his (ex) wife!!

                    • I see.

Well anyone that doesnt keep 'business ' money totally and utterly separate from everything else is asking for trouble.

                      • well i reckon dan owes me about the same as he owes everybody else combined..... the reality is he is not mentally well otherwise i would make a point of beating the money out of him, but you can't take what he doesn't have.

It certainly would, it is my goal though. Always wanted a vocation rather than a job.

i am lucky enough to enjoy all the things i do to pay the bills, sometimes it's easy to forget most people don't like their jobs.
