Most butts of cues comprise 4 pieces of (ebony)timber.why not 3 or 5?
there must be other inconveniences for cuemakers to do such jobs. I can see that a special style clinch which clips the butt timbers glued to the shaft before planing is required at least.
when everyone hold 4 spliced cues in their hands, it should feel a little different or superior to have a 3 or 5 spliced cue with its butt contoured triangle or pentagon.
