Thanks JRC , I was thinking about having a cue made like this .

The only reason i ask , was that i had a cue made to my specs and just could not get on with it at all .

When i sold it , the guy who bought said that it was a very forward balanced cue . So obviously this is not the type of cue for me . I assume that a cue with a slightly backward balance point would suit me better .

I trust the above makes sense !
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

Thanks for your reply Trevor. I hear what your saying and yes a lot of it is true. I am playing quite well at the moment and am pretty happy with my game these days. The cue I have been playing with was 56.5 my new cue is 57.5 I'm going to have the cue cut down to 57. It's nice having the extra length but the cue is just to long making it feel unbalanced on certain shot thus making me twitch on on delivery. I never experience this when playing with the 56.5 cue. I assume that by shortening the cue by 1/2 an inch will mean that I will be holding the cue further back by 1/2 an inch thus effectively moving the balance forward.?

Ah man, my head is seriously hurting with reading about your tinkering with cues over the last few years Peter to the extent I feel i'm going to have to stop reading your posts in future in case you happen to slip something in about tinkering somewhere into it!

I really hope that one day SOON you will find a cue that requires NOTHING doing to it and works for you forever.

Personally chap after reading everything you've written over the years I think you've got yourself into a right muddle in your mind and think way too much about your cue when most likely it's nothing to do with cue at all!

        All the best youth!

Dwot, You couldn't be further from from the truth I'm in a really good place with my snooker I given up solo practice and play once a week if I can be bothered. I have made a 70+ break with every cue that I've owned. My game has improved every year since my return and my stance and Technic have changed, I've leaned something new about my game and what I want from my cue with every change or alteration. I feel that I'm not far off getting back to the level I was at when I was in my twenty's. I'm sure that some ppl might find these post boring but others will identify with me and hopefully can take something from my experience. Also these post provide great feed back from the likes off TW and others. It has been a learning curve for me these last few years and I'm finally enjoying my game after a sticky patch in the early part of this year.
Each to there own I suppose and at the end of the day no one forces anyone to read these posts. I am very selective as to what I read and if I don't like the subject matter I just don't click on thread.

I've been playing very well with this new cue but still can't shift the fact that it feels butt heavy when I'm in amongst the balls. So going back to my original question what is the easy way to shift the balance forward. Can I have the butt drill out and have a light wooden dowel inserted in the butt of the cue there is no SD joint in the cue so this would seem the best solution.
                please advise.

It's my mastercraft cue. It is a cracking cue I don't really want to mess with it but I have to follow my gut on this one.

the only problems if its done right is the weight will be slightly less, the balance will move forward a bit,if you can work with that ,the other alterative is drilling all the weight out and drill a bit deeper and then put same weight back in which should only maybe alter the balance a bit

I can live with the cue been a little lighter say 1/2 an oz. Hour much effect would loosing 1/2 oz from the butt, how much will the balance point shift?

Removing half an ounce will do practically nothing Peter. It has to be much more than that to make a really noticeable difference to the point at which a cue balances.

Have you consdier making the butt a bit thinner? It may not shift the balance by much if at all on a scale but sometimes a slightly slimmer butt would feel so much better in amongst the balls.
