  • Adding butt joints to cues, weight differences?

Anyone any idea how much weight a cue loses on average having a extension joint added to it? My cues currently away being worked on, considering adding a butt joint to it. Can't ask over the phone as parris cues aren't open again till thursday of this week. Cues current weight is around 18.96oz, solid ebony butt.

I always thought that the cue would gain weight, not lose it, as the brass joint is heavier than the wood. But i guess if its done properly the cue will weigh exactly the same. ie drill wood deeper if needed, than the joint

Thats what i thought as well, i remember asking John Parris about this years ago, from what i can recall he said since ebony is very dense wood usually the joint isn't heavy enough to make up the (slight) difference. Can't recall if he said they do anything to counteract that or not, was around 1998. Its possible its a non issue these days i suppose with the joint making up the needed weight.
