  • Michael Holt's Cue - strange look to the butt

    Hi all.
Just been watching a recording of Holt v Hendry and noticed a strange look to the butt of his cue, it looks like a bobbly/bumpy effect. It may just be finger-smudges but does appear to be quite consistent.
Anyone have any info on his cue, thanks.
    Cheers :snooker:

Holt's cue butt.jpg Is this what you saw? It looks like some kind of chalk marks? I imagine it's a Parris cue however I can't be certain. Can anyone validate this? :snooker:

Holt's cue butt 2.jpg Just found another picture, it looks like tape wrapped around the butt, maybe for grip? :snooker:

Yep its tape, he's had that on his cue for years. I've seen a few players in clubs with tape on their cues down the years, I can only assume it is for grip, I can't imagine its to hold the butt together!

        Thanks for that.
It does look like that tennis racket handle tape you buy down the sports shops
        cheers

Its not a Parris cue and its just normal black insulating tape nothing more than that.

ive sometimes seen people wrap tape around a certain area of the butt so when they get down on the shot they can feel where to hold the cue.

Do you know the make? From the second photo above it does look more than just insultation tape, but you could be correct, and it does seem to be very consistent, maybe professionally applied?

yep, seen that in the past, Michael's though is all the way from the joint to the butt so probably to do with feel and grip and not position of the hand.
When I first saw the bobbly effect I thought Michael had been chewing the butt
cheers all for the photos and info.

Having seen it last week I'd say it's more the kind of tape you used to apply to your handlebars back in the day, I'll ask him next time I see him in Pegasus.

Also I dare say it's covering a few dinks as he has been known to hit a few things with it from time to time!

while you are there, there are the other obvious questions, make of cue, reason for the tape, length, ferrule, tip make, weight, etc etc etc. :snooker:
