Hi, im really new to the forum, although ive been lurking in the shadows trying to read whatever snippets i can without registering!
Anyway, i looking for a cue. I have roughly £200 to spend. I've saw some other threads similar to this and got some good ideas for a cue, and would order one, but i would just like to double check with some fellow scottish members. For the past 6 months i've been doing crazy google searchs looking for cue shops around the lanarkshire area, but cant find any. I feel i'm really picky with a cue, my current cue i have is just a cheapish one from Rileys i bought a year and a half ago ( about £50 all in with case ). It's ok, but while i was re-tipping it the other day i found the ferrule and shaft arent even, and obviously being my first cue and introducing me to the game its got some faults with it ( i.e leaving it upright and someone drops it on the pub floor! ) .. It's got some nicks out the butt and im just kind of beginning to feel it's time to mvoe onto a better cue.
The reason im making this thread is because i feel like im really picky with them, everyone in my pool team has their own cues, and when i use them, sometimes i find their really butt heavy, which i dont really like! I dont know if it's because my cue has a 1/2 joint it maybe add's a bit of weight to the shaft, but i like the way the weight is distributed, so it's really putting me off buyin a cue, because it will absolutly break my heart if i find the weight isnt right and feel i have to justify buying it by playing with it!
So im wondering if there are any "try before you buy" shops in the area?
From what i know, im looking for: Ash shaft, 9-9.5mm tip, ebony butt ( maybe with a nice splice & veneer ) and about 18oz .. but like i said, ive played with cues that are the same weight but really heavy at the butt and i dont feel i get the right contact with the cue ball
Was considering getting a MW .. but to be honest, its maybe just a tad outside my price range for what il be using it for. I dont play any snooker league, but currently play in 2 english pool leagues, and play snooker whenever im not playing pool! .. I've only started playing within the past 6 months, and dont think i should be buying a £200+ cue purely because i think il get better, but i would just like an upgrade if you will, and better craftmanship than the cue i currently have!
Maybe still a bit more searching to do, but cue's im really liking the look of are:
Master PB4
Professional Cue M5
Phoenix master cue #2
Phoenix Unity #16
And also the Mastercraft Eclipse(possibly my favorite) & Conquest
You can probably see its the same sort of design im going for, and tbh they are all kind of similar spec, but can anyone shed any light on these cues or is it just a matter of emailing and discussing it with them? Main sort of thing im looking for is "is it butt heavy or more evenly distributed?" .. and if anywhere does these cues in Scotland whereabouts!? Helpp!
