  • New Shaft Needed!!

Right then after having my cue referruled for the 7th time and it snapping off again tonight on a break of 57 as you would say I wasnt impressed lol.

The cue that I have is a 3/4 Tony Glover.

I know this is a long shot but if anyone has a spare shaft that would fit my cue that I could buy.

If not where would be the best place to have a new shaft made Tony Glover, Craftsman??

Any alternatives as I am willing to travel to get the cue sorted.

    Thanks

Your cue must be getting awfully short by now you must have got a real crappy piece of shaft wood good luck getting a replacement.

IMO this isn't a problem with the shaft, sounds like the person putting the ferrule on doesn't know what they are doing.

I'm not expert but logic dictates the ferrule in use is too thick and hasn't been properly fitted or machined down and so there is too little wood left. There is a small chance it's your cue action (either going down into the table on draw, or up over the ball on top spin) but I'm doubtful. White Ash which is used for cues tends to be fairly stiff, but also has some flexibility. No ferrule should snap off 7 times. Definitely something wrong.

Post some pictures up of your ferrule, shaft. Please a 5p in the photo so we can compare.

Firstly the size of the tip was 9.5mm at first then it got tapered down to 9mm like you say but i feel this might be the problem i bought the cue but it had no ferrule just the wooden dowel on the friend got it refeurrled from a friend which is good with wood work and stuff which also may be the reason like it was ill fitted in the first place but it played amazing but one day my brother borrowed it and snapped the ferrule off by dropping the cue i think that caused the damage whilst he had it to be repaired he left in the car boot and i feel the shaft has somehow got damp and damaged the wood making it dry and brittle causing it to easily snap i dont know if this could be the cause.

Cally i think i overexaggerated when i said 7 but it has happened 4 times at least i was so angry writing the post and didnt know how to edit sorry for being misleading.

Cueman the last man to referrule the cue was Tony Glover himself so i think he knows his way around a cue mate lol as he said when i went to pick the cue up that the wood felt quite soft when he was working with it.

As for the pictures i will put them up if you like but i dont have the ferrule as i threw it in disgust and anger as i got a little bit mardy but if you would still want me to put pictures up the cue is just a flat surface never seen such a clean break of the shaft.

The cue is fairly short now i would say around 54 inches thats why i would like a new shaft and use it for playing 8 ball as i dont play snooker as often now with work.

Matt, sorry to hear that ur cue is still giving u problems.

I remember seeing a fair few of ur posts asking for new cues to buy and that you need it urgently, and i have emailed u on occasions what i was selling. Then the next thing u are back talking about this cue.

Being honest and without trying to be harsh, just get this cue sorted once and for all or if it really is z wrong un, get a replacement.

                    Good luck.

Jaffa you are entitled to your own opinion mate i dont take criticism.

Also yes i was looking for a new cue but then i thought that it would be alot cheaper to get the cue i have fixed as it is such a good one cant just leave it there in the case even if it does mean to buy a new shaft.

As for the posts yes i was looking for a new cue and you did email with messages but i have never used a maple cue that you had to offer and also with my work commitments now i dont get time to play as often as i like so it became less urgent to get the cue fixed.

Hopefully the cue will be sorted soon and thanks for wishing me luck.

                        I hope it works out.

U probably already know but worth mentioning.

A new shaft will be a different hit to your current one.

Are u getting glover to make new one or someone else?

                          Thanks mate me too.

Yeah i thought about that as well as the dimensions of the shaft will be different as i might try and different spec to what im used too.

Who i will get to make the shaft i am unsure sent a few messages around to Tony Glover, Craftsman but unsure who else to ask?
