  • help with new cue

Hi, after quite some time I have had my cue returned to me that was stolen, how ever iv had my heart on getting a new one and not keen on using my old one anymore. I want a new cue made to the exact specs as my old one but different design.. Would the maker be able to make the cue more exact if he saw the cue rather than ordering one? Just worried about the balance point been the same and thickness of the cue between ferule and where I bridge as I like them quite thin regards Mathew

A cue maker can copy it fairly accurately but it wont feel the same so bit of a pointless exercise.

      As deepscrew says.

I think your best bet will to drop off or send your current cue to the maker of your choice.

They can then feel it and match it exactly to spec and try their best to make it feel similar.

Reg wright says on his website this is what most customers of his do.

      Which maker u thinking off?

Well the cue is a craftsman cue and must say iv been really pleased with it. Got it 4 years ago but as I said its been missing 6months. Got it back but its been sanded down slightly and few scrapes so just want a new one. Thought about going back to craftsman but fancied trying maybe Trevor white or wooldridge but 40 week wait put me off slightly. Heard good things of all the cue makers coutts, Travis, cue craft, its just making a decision don't how anyone decides?

          Its very difficult i know!

Mastercraft & Travis have short waiting times and good reps..

The thing is, you know you really want a trevor white or mike wooldridge etc..

IMO if you order from another maker to get the cue quicker you will regret it bud.

You will only order the cue you really wanted in first place down the line and have to wait twice as long..if ya get me...

cues seem to do this to ppl here...lol..

Get ya order into trev and have your cue refinsihed when you take it to be spec'd and copied for the new build, and use old cue until new cue that you want is ready...

That's the best advice you'll get imo...

Cos mark my words, if you don't go for what you want now you WILL eventually.. may aswell get the order in out the way and forget bout it for few months bud...

Cues are very much a psychological thing. IF you were happy with your craftsman then the best bet for me would be to get it refinished as you know you're happy with it. Buying a Wooly or Trevor White as good as they are doesn't mean you'll get on with the cue. Trust me I've learned that lesson many times with the lower end market and the upper end. I'm using my old cue of 16 years now, it has dents on the shaft and butt, has a warp of 3mm but to me I can't find a cue with a shaft like it anywhere. Its a complete one off, very rigid yet responsive, the holy grail of cues.

Thanks for the reply cally and cueman. Sound a bit stupid but when you both say get my current cue refinished I'm guessing u mean they can get it back to how it was? Mine too has a slight bend just below the ferule but its been like that 3 years and it doesn't bother me to much and iv tried a few of my friends cues but none seem as nice as mine. See what the future brings but don't think il be happy until iv got a Trevor white maybe it might not be what I expect but at least I will of tried and can't question what if I got one.

A refinish should resolve the issues with ur cue and craftsman cues are bloody good cues.

If ur local to craftsman, they charge £18 for refinish.

I dunno what trev charges but if your sending ur cue to him so he can get the fulls specs and feel then i am sure when u get it back it will be like new. Just the same as all the makers.

                  Good luck with decisions

Ps the cue will be able to be straightened as well. Craftsman charge less than tenner. Again i imagine trev charges more but check with him.

Baz I would Definately take your Old Cue or Send it to Either Trevor White or who ever you decide to goto as they will get Taper and Exact Specs off that for New Cue and they will also see how stiff/responsive the Shaft of Old Cue is.

                    Gaz.

Glover cues have a jig that Tony uses to copy exactly , to within oooths of an inch ,cue tapers. If you want an exact replica Tony is the man to see. However , I will echo what has been said previously, just because it is identical it doesnt mean it will play the same as your original ,good luck in your search though. Hope this helps.

Also remember that if you are buying a standard spec cue and its from Trev, Mike or Parris then the second hand retail value is very strong.

You wont lose money and will be quick sale.

Also, if money is no object, you could order two cues, same maker or different. Decide which one plays best and sell the other one with no loss of money.
