  • Will 1 extra inch matter .

    Greetings All,
I am thinking of buying a cue which at 58" is one inch longer than the cue I am very happy playing with now.
I have experimented with a cue that was 1/2 " shorter and found it very uncomfortable.
Does anyone think there might be negatives associated with going 1" longer ?
Thank you in advance for your views.

for some it wont make much difference and they will adapt . my cue is 57 " and i,m debating whether to have a 1/4 " off . treied a 58 " and it just feels like a javelin in my hand which seems to effect my control over the cue .

1 inch is quite a big difference IMO. My cue is also just short of 57" and its lovely around the pack but the only trouble is bridging off the cushion sometimes I feel like an extra inch would help. However I've used cues at 58" and they seem way too long for me so yes 1" is quite a big difference.

Notice a lot of the pros are using cues near 58" these days. I would suspect it would be just a matter of where you gripped the longer cue on the butt in that you should have another inch hanging out the back of the hand but have that extra inch for those slightly longer reach shots.

However, I like to grip my cue right at the back, just like Matthew Stevens and I like the feel of the flat of the butt on my fingers (straight down instead of straight up) and I use a 57" cue but I have been trying a very nice WH GP at 58" and although it's not a big change I have to grip the cue a little bit differently and now my baby finger is on the butt and I've found I'm not as accurate.

              Go figure!

Just alter your grip and if you cant get on with the cue at 58" ,get it professionally shortened back to your original specs.Nothing to lose,in my opinion and if you keep your original cue and find you " have " to get the 58" cue altered, you would then have a back up cue,in case something happens to your original.

Depends on your cue action. If your dropping elbow like Ronnie (called DRIVE) you may ended up with to much cue in your grip hand specially if you hold cue at the end of the butt. But if you packing( stoping at the chest or hitting your chest) like Ding , Ebdon and many others it wan't make much difference. you may have to move your grip hand 1 " forward to feel comfortable and get use to extra length.

Too hasty... I'd watch for it a bit more before coming to that conclusion... Lol.
