  • Phoenix MJW replica or Master Cue Pyragon M7?

Hi people at TSF, hope you can shed a little light on my "problem"

I have been thinking about takin' up snooker again, after an 11 year absence. I live in Denmark, and we don't have any dealers that can deliver quality cues (only Peradon)
I've been looking at Craftsman cues website and have narrowed it down to the above metioned cues. Since i live far away i cannot try them out, and have to rely on makin' a bullseye when i order. I would appreciate it if anyone on this board can help me make the right choice.
What are the pros and cons with these two cues, and are there any mentionable quality differences?

    Thanks in advance

Someone posted on here that Apparently Mark Williams has changed the spec of his cue, so it looks like the Phoenix Mark Williams ones won't be an exact replica of his current cue.

Personally i would look at the Greenbaize website, Stu Green is excellent to deal with, the GBL (Greenbaize) cues get good reviews on here.

The phoenix cues seem to have good reviews and mastercues are very good . I ain seen a phoenix so cant comment but have had a few mastercues and GBL cues which i find excellent cues and a real bang for your buck .

since you are buying blind you have to kee the possibility of selling the cue in your mind . So whatever you go for you have to think how difficult it would be to sell on .

I would Personally go for Master Cue as I have said for many many years Best Quality/Value for Money Cues on the Market.

I have had over 300+ of these Master Cues and Never had a Complaint yet only thing was around 8yrs ago they did have a few with Bad Joints but Ukrit Owner of Master Cue has Changed the Joints Now so has Stopped this.

The Way to Tell if the Cue has the New Joint Fitted is UNSCREW Butt from top shaft and look at Female Joint on Butt and it will say MASTER CUE ingraved like O'min on Brass. If it says Master Cue on Brass on the Butt it has the New Joint Fitted if Not then its the Old Style doesnt mean its gonna Clunk or anything just a few did many years ago.

        Hope this Helps.

        Gaz.

Just a word of advice if you decide to go for Phoenix cue. I had a bad experience with the quality of the finish when I bought direct from them. The finish on the shaft left much to be desired and the butt was a total disaster; lacquered, rough and badly wrinkled (yes). Imagine my dismay. But fair enough, they re-finished and re-delivered it for free. Better than before but still rather poor.

I know they have quite a few good reviews on this forum. I guess you should be fine buying through re-sellers like Craftsman who will probably do quality checks to ensure that the cues are good for sale.

As for Mastercue, I have purchased direct from them custom cues, accessories, cases... and each time a happy, satisfied customer. I even visited their place in Bangkok before while on a holiday there. Wouldn't hesitate to order from them again although the owner, Mr Ukrit seems to be awful busy recently. Maybe due to the floods and all.

          Good luck!!

I don't doubt that... I have UK and Thai cues. The latter are usually good value for money although I think they probably have quite a few cue makers in one cue company, or various people handling the different production stages. This could result in QC issues if the company owner is not vigilant. I suspect that was what happened to my Phoenix cue; lax QC. Probably just a one-off case though.

Nope, not yet. It has been delayed and has been flying around Europe for some time . Got a call from TnT yesterday that it should arrive today. I'll drop a few lines when i have tried it out.

Well you're gonna have to wait for feedback on how the cue plays. Received it Friday, last week, and it was in excellent condition. This week i went to the club to try it out and noticed there were three cracks in it, just above the joint. . The cracks have probably come as a result of the temperature differences between being in transit and the temperature in my flat.
I have to take my hat off to Craftsman Cues as they have offered to fix it, and send it back to me. I have received nothing but class A service from them. Now it's just patience......patience.....patience
