  • Gravity Cues

Gravity cues have been out for a while now, does anybody use one of these or have they faded into oblivion?
Can't find any recent threads on this subject and would love to hear peoples recent reviews and experiences of them.

A few of the up and coming youngsters in Scott's club (Liverpool) use a gravity cue......young Clapton Humphries is sponsored by them I think....they all swear by them and don't use anything else.....by the way....Clapton has had 4 147's using a gravity cue.....tiny tip as well...maybe 8 to 8.5 mm. Not used one myself......prefer my MW.
You may defeat me but I will fight you to the very end!!!!

No mate not the 360 training cue, the actual gravity cues. Been on their website but they aren't selling any at the minute apparently they are working on a new cue.

Wonder what the point of the small tipsize is?

No idea. I tried playing snooker with my pool cue (8mm tip) it just didn't feel right at all, use 9.5mm now and feels so much better. Shaun Murphy and Matthew Stevens use smaller tips aswell.

I've had one for about a year now. It's a good solid cue. The metal strip at the bottom can make it seem rather "cold" for a wooden cue when you first pick it up(i.e. it feels more like one of those horrible graphite ones), although that feeling quickly goes away. I'm not really convinced that it's done anything to improve my game though.

I've recently bought a Mike Wooldridge olivewood shark cue. It's a similar spec but the balance and feel of the cue is much nicer, so the gravity cue has now been relegated to the cue rack. My uncle and I had a few frames the other day, and he used the gravity cue and played the best I've ever seen him play, don't know whether that was coincidence or not!

Thanks for your reply mate, i had a couple of frames of pool with one ages ago (the very first prototype) i didn't miss a pot with it the cue just felt really good in my hand. Like you say don't know if it was coincidence or not, i was playing well in general at the time anyway. What sort of gravity cue is yours, the prototype or the ones made by Peradon or Mastercue?

Mine is a Peradon SX80. I had to wait around 3-4 months for it to be made - I got the impression that Peradon weren't exactly pushing it as a product.

Like I said, it's a good cue, but am not convinced that the strange weighting really does anything miraculous for your cue action...

Cheers mate, i'm not sure myself, doesn't seem to be many people using them anyway. Let me know if you consider selling i may be interested.

I've no plans to sell it right now, but if I do I'll let you know...

                          Hi Tred

is the gravity cue better in straight delivery esp in some powered cueing ?

Bottom-line on that is I guess it depends on the person delivering the cue - I don't think it ever improved my cueing action, but it is a good cue. The weighting and feel of the cue is certainly different from any other cue I've ever tried. It gives a very solid hit; personally I'd recommend that anyone considering buying one tries one out first. I can see why some people would swear by them but I don't think this type of cue would work for everyone.

For one thing, you certainly need to feel comfortable with a fairly heavy cue (I guess that's the whole point, since the balance and weighting of the cue is unusual). Of all the cues I own, it's the one that takes me the longest to get used to playing with. Don't get me wrong, am not knocking this as a product - it's innovative and offers something quite different but I don't think it would be to everyone's taste. I can imagine that a 9-ball "gravity" pool cue could be quite popular (am not sure if they've ever tried making one).

                            Hope this helps...
