Need some advice on a cue

Hi ya everyone I was hoping someone with more experience might be able to help. Im considering buying a 1 pc TW cue off someone but in the pics they sent me the maple veneer looks discoloured or stained almost. Any ideas what this could be? Please see the photo attached. Cheers, Rob

Need some advice on a cue

A fella I know holds his chalk in his cue hand,
His maple on the Joe Davis he uses has gone much the same
Could be as the chalk is abrasive that it's caused the staining
If he does the same thing of course.
