How many cues have you used personally with a standard ferrule, and then re-used "after" fitting on of these black ferrules in order to gauge any improvement.?
Or, have you used a cue with one of these black ferrules, and "then" replaced it with a standard brass ferrule to see if there has been any loss of performance.?
How many cues have you done this with and what were your findings.?

of most importance was a stiff cue i had recently been trying and my original cue which was always very whippy.
it gave both cues a firm, crisp hit and brought the overall 'feel' and 'reaction' much closer together.
the amount of side, screw, etc.. appears to increase and become easier in general.
it appears to give 'power' to a whippy cue, so it kind of negates the request that some customers have of wanting very stiff wood.
it gives me a hit/touch/feel on my cues that i am extremely happy with, and the fact that it almost standardises this makes my life much easier and allows far more confidence in selecting shafts etc..
nobody who has used it has any complaints whatsoever and all echo my own findings that spin and 'power' require less effort.
i am sure there will be many sceptics out there, but all i will say to them is - don't knock it until you've tried it.
finally, it will be available under license for any cue makers who wish to take advantage of this development, as i do not have the capabilities and time to retro fit this system to the large number of people who are already asking for it.
so it makes to sense to share it rather than try to keep it all to myself

What tips have you tried during testing?

Thanks Mike.
Your reply raises many questions, which I won't / don't want to get into asking, but suffice to say, I'm thinkning that you will only use this type of ferrule from now on then yes.?
It's not for me, but good luck with it anyway.

that is my opinion of course, but i have the benefit of knowing what cues play like with basic brass ferrules compared to this new concept.
yourself, along with just about the entire snooker/pool playing population do not have that luxury.
so, i am well aware there will be many doubters. but the only question that really needs asking is - is it better?
the only way to know that is to try it. i'm sure it won't be long before most people know someone who has one, and can test the performance for themselves.
in the meantime, i believe in it 100%, so that's all customers will be getting from me from now on...

the seven cues did not have new black tips. they were supertips. i put something on the walls to seal them a bit so they look a bit darker.

I find this whole discussion fascinating - it would be very interesting to hear what another cue maker thinks of your invention.
The techno geek in me loves to see invention and new tech, even in a discipline as old and traditional as cue making. I can't resist new cue tech (I have a tri-cue and a gravity cue because I had to try them, although so far I've not been tempted by acuerate) but then again I also appreciate the craftsmanship in a well-made traditional cue.
Many years ago I used to occassionally play pool with a cue that didn't have a ferrule at all (it wasn't mine) - I remember that the "feel" of the cue was great, but have always shied away from having one of my cues modified to remove the ferrule as that would obviously lead to the cue being damaged in the long run. Have never tried one of OB cues laminated maple ferrules (since they only appear to make US pool cues and I don't play much 9-ball), out of interest has anyone here tried one? I wonder how that compares to Mike's new ferrule?

tred, the important thing to note here is that the cues play and feel fantastic. this was imperative to me from the start.
i know all about making a good cue, and to be honest, i did not think it could be improved on. i was wrong.
many things introduced have been gimmicks which imo have not improved anything. they are simply that, gimmicks aimed at taking money from people who are looking for that 'magic' thing to help them improve.
there is no such thing of course, but i feel this is different. i did not expect such a difference in things like cue ball 'throw' and have never been particularly interested in it. a cue still has to be got used to and adjustments need to be made for shots regardless, so levels of 'throw' are irrelevant.
but when you get something with a hit that is really clean/crisp and just feels so right PLUS benefits of reduced throw then it's a no-brainer. it makes some shots a little easier and it definitely appears to supercharge shots with extreme side or deep screw etc..
it's a win win situation as far as i'm concerned.
