Same here. I'm wondering if mike will put one of his prototype tips (like the one in the vid) on my shark I've ordered?!!
Did you put my "1" up ?

yes, but it's catch 22 for me.

the latest ones are very firm. not unlike a laminated in the way they will keep their shape better. i tried them and absolutely love them.

but some people have liked the softer version i did as part of the prototype testing.

may be that i need to offer two versions.

but i'd rather stick with firm cos i believe it is better. so that's what you'll get and hopefully you'll like it.

          • Cool, look forward to it .
To be honest im probably not good enough to know the difference at the moment.
I know your super tip feels a lot better than the Elk that I had on my JP but that is a far as my "knowledge" goes.
If you are looking for opinions on it my neighbour will be trying my cue and he is a seasoned century maker.
I'm sure whatever it is like it will be perfect for what I do.

Ive used my cue for 3 years and used mikes single layer supertip for a few years, sobill be able to tell the difference between the ferrule/blackspin and his new tip compared to his normal one

              • mmmm can't wait now, prefer a harder tip by miles but been struggling to find a decent single layer one, like the supertip but find it a tad soft, only one i've been able to find is pro granite in terms of hardness but really inconsistent in terms of feel, so might be on to a winner with these new blackspin tips

Thats exactly the same as me mate! Ive been using the single layer tips they are a tad soft but bed in well after a few hours practise, the granite are good but like you say are inconsistent, i was thinking of trying the mastercue magic black tips as they feel quite firm!
Was down the pub the other day mucking about with an old club cue which had an old Blue Diamond or Elk on it and obviously because of all the use it felt really bedded in and felt great! Lol, might have to pull it off and keep it in my box as a spare ;-)

                  • I think the Super Tips are just right for me. Like a good solid elk but lasts longer.

I suspect the blackspin tips will be too firm for me but as always i'll give them a go.

no, we're banging them out daily. the demand has been unprecedented, and when the cue arrives it'll take no more than two days.

                          good point.

there remains two types of player, those that like soft tips that really bite and those that place more importance in tips keeping shape than actual performance, i.e. laminated tip fans.

as i said earlier. i've had some people absolutely love a prototype soft version, so i may have to reconsider my overall manufacturing process.

however, i tried the latest experiment which is very hard and shiny to look at, but scuffs up lovely, holds the chalk well, and performs absolutely spot on. imho.

i really want to press ahead with this particular tip as i feel it has everything - playability and the shape keeping characteristic normally associated with hard laminated tips.

we'll see how this develops, but i have a truckload of softies for you if you don't like the 'official' new tip.

i'd be willing to bet this ticks your boxes. seriously impressed with my early findings.

                            • Ive always liked a slightly softer tip myself. Seem to have more confidence to get really low on the white when playing screw with a softer tip. Certainly not a tip like blue tack though lol
