For me, it's a given fact that a good pressed tip throws less/gives more reaction than a laminated.

One of the reasons I don't like laminated myself...

So yes, there definitely is an element of a tip/ferrule combination.

Anyway, glad you noticed the difference based on your experience with a laminated tip.

Will help people understand more, all the factors that affect cue all performance.

Thats interesting Mike as i have found Tallys Black Magic and Kamui throw less than most pressed tips i,ve tried .

I agree hotpot, although unless its just a magic combination between the blackspin and the supertip, tallys definitely throw more when used with the blackspin.

Would need to try a good few more types of tips to find the best combination between feel, power, deflection and spin

just my opinion.

bear in mind though, i've never liked laminated tips nor specifically tried to compare throw cos it's not something that particularly bothers me.

but based on my own use, i feel/remember that's the case.

metal ferrules are hard with little/no give, so they throw more than a soft ferrule. seems reasonable to assume a harder tip does the same thing.

it's not something i would argue about though cos i don't like laminated and wouldn't use one if it did
