  • i think there is a problem cos what you describe is not what usually happens.

removing the core completely and returning it back to solid ash/maple with a brass is not a major problem, just awkward and needs to be done very carefully.

you should have sent it back so i could rectify it to your satisfaction.

all feedback is good but it doesn't help if i am not given the chance to investigate what the issue could be and put it right.

          • Hi mike, any idea when the new tips will be ready to buy?
Did you put my "1" up ?

            • Well here is my thoughts on the blackspin ferule. I was very sceptical and dubious about this! Having received my cue from Mike I have had only 1 session with it. I don't know how this could produce more cue power and more screw but let me tell you it DOES. Cue feels lively and very responsive and screws back with ease. The cue had a three day turnaround from me sending to me receiving it back. The finish on my cue is the best I have seen on any cue so far. So if you are thinking about it then do it.
Just to add the ferule was retro fitted to my Hunt & Osborne cue.

              • Rather excited to see that my cue has now been delivered to Mike for fitment of a blackspin ferule and associated attention included in the £75 (too cheap, surely!?) price.
It's worth mentioning a few things before i receive my cue back and give a review.
                1. £75 is undeniably cheap for what Mike is doing to my cue based on the endorsements of both his work and the blackspin in this forum.
                2. The cost is not £75 exactly. After i've clicked BUY there is also a £15 return postage cost as well as my postage and packaging costs to get the cue to Mike. All in cost... £108. Still cheap based on what i said before, just a crime Mike isn't getting more of that pie.
                3. I was so close instead to hitting buy on a Black Shark Maple before they are gone but can't justify £295 plus £75 joint plus £15 postage= £385. That said, since posting my work circumstances have just changed for the better, so i hope i won't be kicking myself to badly when the last shark drops off of the website soon.

Very excited to get my cue back (a humble maple Cue Craft).

Don't forget that you also get a free mot, refinish, etc .

Mike took a slight bend out of mine included in the price, and the finish is so shiney, it hurts ( like snow blindness ).

                  • When I do receive my Jason Owen cue at the end of the week, I've been thinking weather to get it fitted with the "backspin ferrule" straight away or see how it goes playing with it first because I've been using one of mikes cues for the last 4 months and i got used to using the backspin ferrule.

                    • Well, it certainly makes sense that a black ferrule could make aiming easier (more contrast with the cue ball). I've wondered before why more people haven't tried it.

One of the reasons i prefer maple cues. I find that with ash cues that either the straight grain or chevrons are, for want of a better word, distracting. Not very much so, but it's a less pure image for me to process when picturing the pot as i line up to take the shot. Just what i've found with my eyes and my brain, but that's what i find.

Try it first before you send it you never know!

                          • BlackSpin ferule is an amazing thing. I have never used a cue before, that is so easy to play with.
You cannot improve your game if you don't have a cue and snooker table
                            BTW vucko means wolfie

What you can't justify £385 for a cue but you can on spending £108 on having a ferrul fitted.

If you we're gonna buy a black shark maple from mike, you wouldn't have had to pay extra to get backspin fitted as they come standard on them.
