Just took the plunge and purchased a ANDY TRAVIS 3/4. PLAIN EBONY BUTT CUE All I can say this is one hell of a cue for the price paid, I was a bit hesitant as it was on e bay and there is so much double dealing going on lately with cues, however having read some of the input on Snooker Forum regarding Andy Travis I went for it. Andy;s e mails and information put me in no doubt that I was making a good purchase. The cue arrived via signed for parcel post, well packed in bomb proof plastic tubes and bubble wrap, and I played down the club within 1/2 hour of it being delivered, It was brilliant ! Ok it is very low key with no fancy inlays e.c.t. but its a great playing cue, The 3/4 joint fitting is what I think is called a vacuum lock ? and is very well fitted there is a re-assuring Pop ! when the cue is taken apart, The butt has a slim feel 28.3 and is very pleasing to the grip, The only thing I changed was the tip it was a Elkmaster 9.75 ! I Put on a Talisman along with Mike Wooldridge my top tips, I have told Andy I may have another made at a later date with Mammoth ivory inserts and wood from the Mary Rose. THANKS TRAV GREAT JOB 10/10.

WOW TRAV ! ITS MY CUE Thanks for a great transaction from a very happy bunny. If its not a rude question how long have you been making cues, were you self taught ? and how did you start out. I am sure members would find your reply interesting.Last edited by denja; 12 April 2012, 09:19 PM.

Andy Travis Cue ( My new purchase)
I've had my Andy Travis cue just over 3 weeks and it's playing better everyday...perfectly balanced...nice solid hit...stiff...but not too stiff and extremely powerful for a 18.5 oz cue. And yesterday I stroked in a delightful 59 and fluffed the yellow for what would have been a 86 clearance....so I have to agree...he does make a damn fine cuePinpoint, Pause, Pullback, Pause, Pot.

I started fitting tips and ferrules in the early 80s just in my locality, bought a mini lathe around 1990 which allowed me to fit joints etc, in 2008 my place of work shut after working there 32 years thats when i invested in a bigger lathe, so thats when i first advertised on ebay offering cue repairs which gradually turned into resplicing old damaged cues which then led to making whole cues from scratch.
I have never been shown/told or read how to make a cue i have no special CNC lathes etc, just metal lathe, mini lathe, circular saw and wood plane etc, so in answer to denja, yes i am self taught and make cues the only way i know.
