I started fitting tips and ferrules in the early 80s just in my locality, bought a mini lathe around 1990 which allowed me to fit joints etc, in 2008 my place of work shut after working there 32 years thats when i invested in a bigger lathe, so thats when i first advertised on ebay offering cue repairs which gradually turned into resplicing old damaged cues which then led to making whole cues from scratch.
I have never been shown/told or read how to make a cue i have no special CNC lathes etc, just metal lathe, mini lathe, circular saw and wood plane etc, so in answer to denja, yes i am self taught and make cues the only way i know.

Andy Travis[/QUOTE] RESPECT MAN I have had my own business and I know how hard it is to make it at some time you have to make decisions that are Sh** or bust, then you make it and the Government and tax man start taking it away from you,but you keep plodding on keep going Trav you make a great cue.

You're right JCR, the cue i own previously belonged to sanman who was rather 'negative' about the cue for what seemed like no reason. Since Sanman owned the cue Andy rebadged it and changed the joint. Andy was a delight to deal with and the cue itself is simply awesome, especially considering the price!

Correct, these 2 were my first badged cues, i bought them back off Terry Davidson.

I dont wanna start with ANDY Travis issue again. 02aleric if you happy with the cue you have currently with you then i am truly happy for you. The fact of the matter is that as long as I had the cues I had genuine complaints with boths cues, and AT did nothing to sort out the issues or look into my complaint. Those were the first cues that he made and unfortunately I got the brunt of his mistakes.

Well you seem to be the only person in the World who has anything negative to say about his cues!

DOES THAT MAKE ME THE BAD ONE OUT HER BY DEFAULT. I HAVE BOUGHT PLENTY OF CUES FROM FORUM MEMBERS AND i HAVE NEVER ONCE COMPLAINED ABOUT ANYTHING I RECEIVED FROM THEM YET THE ONE TIME I COMPLAIN THEN I GET LABELLED AS A CRY BABY. AN THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT ANDY TRAVIS AS YET NEVER ATTENDED TO MY COMPLAINT. ATTACHED ARE PICS OF THE CUE AS I RECEIVED THEM

I just visited Andy at his home to look at two cues he has for sale. They both look great cues. His craftmanship does look great. The feel of the cues were smooth and would suit a player who likes the lighter cue. I have asked him if he will make me one from scratch, which he agreed. He's a very genuine chap who knows what he's doing when it comes to cues. Anyone wanting a good honest cue then look no further.

GREAT That you were able to visit Andy at his workshop I envy you but work and distance makes it impossible for me, but as you can see by this thread I was able to purchased a Plain Ebony Butt 3/4 Ash from his e bay section, its beautiful ! and I think good value for money,My brother has his eye on it and I can see me ordering another for him it the future, however I think he may go for something a bit more BLING ! with very contrasting inlay and splices "He is a flash git"
