  • Lathe in place at last!!!

Just a wee update on the exquisite cue workshop!
As you all know I just got my workshop built!
I had my lathe sitting patiently waiting to be moved in place but it was one hell off a job
As it weight half a ton!!
A full days planning a pallet truck and 4 bodies and wee done it in 2hrs!
But never again I tell you!
Here's a pic of it in place!

Is that floor on a reinforced / concrete base, or just on timber battens.?

I built a really solid timber floor out of 6x2s and then
The shed guys layed there own floor! It's just solid enough!
May add too it in time!

            Ah ok.

As long as it's rigid enough to stop any movement through the floor it should be ok I guess. The Chipmaster is a very solid little lathe and for something so compact, they carry serious weight.

Mentioned it because it would be a tragedy to fit out a compact workspace where you have such limited room, only to later find you need to take up /cut out a section of floor to strengthen it.

            Good luck with your work.

Your right trevs! I've just got away with it!
                My frame was super solid!
The weight in the chipmaster is unreal!
Super heavy! Thanks for your advice!
If its needs even more strengthening it may have to be done but think it will be cool!
Really happy it's in place now tho!
Still along way to go workshop wise!
Will get there in the end tho!

I owe a lot of thanks to Robert Osborne he's helped me out loads!

A little late for you raymo, but i had a 650kg lathe picked up from birmingham, loaded on a truck and delivered up here to north wales, lifted through my patio doors with a step of 18" then rolled a further 8 meters and fitted in to my workshop exactly where i wanted it all in for £350 !
it was the best money ive ever spent i felt giulty paying the lads so gave them a crate of fosters each

oh and there were just the two lads who didnt want any help (mad b#'#tards)

I know crispian tell me about it! I have learned the hard way and would definitely pay to get it done if need be again!
                            So so heavy aren't they!
Only thing is I can't see anyone stealing it and if so good luck to them lol!
It's not easy to find a bench lathe with a big enough bore!
What lathe do you have then?
