Just read up on it a little more and discovered it is an irritant to the eyes, I certainly was lucky as was never goggled up! I remember it 'catching' a few times on the plane, I put it down to my technique Beautiful stuff once finished!

        • To be honest I wouldnt use Wenge again, looked amazing but was hard to work and too much hasle with goggles etc.
I did talk to MW afterwards and he said there are the 'standard' set of woods that most cue makers use for a reason, that reason being they look the best and the best results can be achieved easily with them.

Makes perfect sense really! Great experience for you though and you certainly got a beautiful result out of the wood and the customer is happy. I think people will often look for something that is different and unusual and as MW pointed out there is a probably a good reason why you don't see it around.

I'm happy with Ebony and a single splice of Birds Eye Maple a la Joe Davis' or could be pushed for a bit of Masur Birch if feeling daring!!

I must have had a good piece because the wenge I've used was a pleasure to work with. It cut very cleanly with no tear out and sanded to a high shine. Must have just been lucky I guess.
