Funny thing about Jimmys H&O was it had a really crappy grain ( at the very least the side he cued with had a really bad grain, horses for courses though), it was mainly a few "arrows" coming down the cue towards him then the last 8-12 inches or so it was a grain loop which was another arrow pointing towards him and the other end had an arrow which was basically right at the base of the ferrule.

My cue has a stupidly long butt measuring 27 inches, quite similar to the h&o in some ways.

Many Years ago people didnt even think about the Chevrons/Arrows and just got on with it, But now the Cue Makers are trying to Make the Perfect Cues I would say 7 out of 10 People would Prefer Nice Chevrons/Arrows on the Cue and Me Personally I like to Have Nice Chevrons/Arrows inline with the Badge Facing Up and if I Buying a Cue to Sell or taking One in Part-Ex I like to have this as I noticed it sells alot easier now adays with Nice Chevrons/Arrows.

Very nice grain patterns on both of those cues. If a shaft has a lot of "arrows" say like +12 or so, to me personally it makes the cue come off somewhat cheap. Matter of taste of course.

Yup, people were happy to own a cue let alone worry about how the grain looked. These days people seem to want their own ash tree selected and cut down so they can examine the wood thats come out of it and pick a shaft

Very nice indeed! arrows are a must for me though a cue is a cue, if it hits well thats the main thing, liking your cues too

Both nice cues. I just recently re-finished the Hunt & O'Byrne and the grain came up really nice. Beautiful cues both.
