  • I actually enjoyed PP post's. But that aside I would like to get this thread back on track.....

I haven't heard anything from JP since sending my email requesting that if I were to change my order to a 3/4 will it speed on the delivery time? I've now decided not to bother John any more, well a least for a few months. lol

    • PS
I don't think I was ever serious about changing to maple, just simply letting of a bit of steam after getting the shock news that I could be waiting two years for the cue. The 3/4 is a practical decision base purely on transporting the cue on the bike.

        • Thanks for the info Darren, still a long wait, but not as bad as the one piece. I'll give John a nudge after Xmas

Maples cack anyway imo, with ash you can se exactly what you're paying for, maple is just far too bland.

              • I think your right Narl, but I'm sure there's others who would disagree. But IMO a quality ash cue with evenly spaced chevrons on pure looks alone beats maple hands down every day of the week.

If you still got the picture stick it on here, if not no worries.

I'm not so sure of that.

Maple is utterly stunning against timbers like snakewood, figured rosewoods like cocobolo as well as many other timbers which tend to appear confused and muddy against ash.

A good maple cue is the equal of any ash cue, made by anyone from any era and can have a look of complete understated beauty.

                      IMO of course.

In the main, I think you're right. But I now have 3 TW cues ( don't ask ) and the specs are as follows:

57.5", ash, ebony butt, totally round 27mm butt ( later reduced to 26mm) by Trevor
58", ash, Mannock replica style splicing, 27mm round butt
57.5", ash, ebony butt, totally round 26mm butt

The first and third cues both play pretty much identically. Even more so, now the first cue is also 26mm in size. I pretty much knew I wasn't guessing my 'best' specs as I based them off my JP slim. And sure enough ( by luck maybe? ) they play ( for me ), perfectly. The only cue that does try and be diff. is the 2nd one.. But that cue doesn't get much of a try out as the other two play SO well..

So to sum up.. I hear what you're sayin Caz.. It's all subjective and an element of luck does play it's part. I'm just grateful I found this forum which put me in touch with Trevor two years ago. Good luck with your JPU m8!

                          • Ok it's now been sorted, I have gone for the 3/4, I'm happy that I've made the right decision for me and have 100% confidence that the cue will be perfect in every way.
I spoke to John himself and although he said changing would speed the order he still could not give me a date. He only said that I will be waiting 3 times as long for the one piece!

                            • Weird how 1 piece cues seem to be making a resurgance, seeing much more of them doing the rounds lately.

BTW caz what design did you end up going for? I can only recall snakewood being mentioned.

                              • Did JP give you a reason why 1pc cues take 3 times as long? I can't see other cue makers struggling to find the requisite ash or maple for 1pc cues as the majority of them seem to make 1pc cues today.

Lets be honest a 3/4 cue should need the same property of ash as a 1pc, I was under the impression that all ash comes in standard lengths of board and is then cut to the required lengths. The reality is a 1pc shouldn't take any longer than 3/4, only when difference is a 3/4 cue can be worked on by more than 1 person at a time, 1 doing the shaft, the other making the butt section, still shouldn't be 3 times longer though! Very very confused.
