James Cahill's cue is the nicest example of a maple one piece i have ever seen. Not sure what wood the butt is but its not ebony. Think its a wooldridge.

BTW caz what design did you end up going for? I can only recall snakewood being mentioned.
The design is quite simple snakewood with a blue veneer

Lets be honest a 3/4 cue should need the same property of ash as a 1pc, I was under the impression that all ash comes in standard lengths of board and is then cut to the required lengths. The reality is a 1pc shouldn't take any longer than 3/4, only when difference is a 3/4 cue can be worked on by more than 1 person at a time, 1 doing the shaft, the other making the butt section, still shouldn't be 3 times longer though! Very very confused.
The one piece shaft runs from tip to butt.
The 3/4 with a joint at 12 inch's runs from tip to butt.
The 3/4 with a joint at 16 inch's stops above the joint.

I see cazmac had his cue and already listed it for sale! All this effort for a cue and he's hardly used it. Guess he is another that bought a cue with the sole intention to make a profit from it judging from the asking price!

That's the impression you're supposed to be under.

Don't like the design at all, thought he was going for a single face splice of snakewood, not 4 of what appears to be olivewood, he's listed it as rosewood but it looks far too light to be rosewood unless its the flash making it brighter.
Id be amazed if by now he's not had an offer from our favourite Russian delboy spinning him a tale about how its only worth £700.

personally I think the spec is pretty crap as well for a 3/4 jointed cue. 17oz is way too light for a cue like this, the shaft must be very light as most of the natural weight will come from the solid butt. I reckon he is talking out of his backside if he thinks this plays well, he simply wouldn't sell it so soon after having it, especially waiting over 18 months for it.
