Cue and rest problems

I find that after using the rest it leaves metallic marks on the shaft. It's getting hard to clean off. Is this bad for the cue?

Also. Will using the rest a lot eventually wear down two grooves on your shaft?

If you're using the pool-type aluminum rest then switch to an X-head brass one and you shouldn't get the marks.

Unless you're pressing the shaft down hard on the rest head you shouldn't get any grooves.

Also, you shouldn't be using the rest that often. Most players who can play a little position will try and get position where they don't need to use the rest unless there's no other option.
