How much difference did a good cue make in your scoring ?
I disagree with Gerry that you can't go from regular 40's to 80's as that's exactly what I did I was always tinker with my cue cutting bits off sanding adding weight. Don't get me wrong I was practising a lot at the time and to tell you the truth I think it was partly the cue and partly changes I made to my game along with practice. But the fact remains I made a big leap forward in a very short space of time. If your asking is it possible to do this just by changing you cue I would have to say no, unless you were playing with the worlds worst cue and you were making 40's in-spite of the cue and it was the cue holding you back. But that would have to be some piece of ****. Please note that I talking about the past here and not the present.
I was exaggerating a little. He wouldn't have won the World Championship with any club cue I have seen.
If your game was learned and honed around a crap bent cue then a good straight cue wouldn't make you any better. Ken Doherty and John Spencer won world titles with very bent cues. Spencer's had one of the butt splices held in place by a nail.
A lot of 'cue snobs' would have laughed at Hendry's old Powerglide, until they saw him play that is.
As for Ronnie, if he can learn to play that well with his left hand, he can use any cue with his right.
I sometimes think that (Myself included) we all have more money that sense ! we purchase a good cue and all appears great then that little doubt creeps in that if I had the latest Mike Wooldridge John Parris Hybrid with the pink poker dot blackspin and the mammoth ivory splices and garden of Eden apple wood shaft, we will become another Ronnie sorry guy's it aint gonna happen, I made a pact (After many stupid mistakes) get a reasonable cue and concentrate on playing, practice, and more practice, dont keep chopping and changing.

You seem to be agreeing with me after all? That was the point of the OP question as I understood it i.e. all other things being equal, will a good cue turn me from an 40 break player into an 80 break player? I answered No and you seem to be saying No as well but you opened with the line that you are disagreeing with me.
