Aurora Snooker Cues

I purchased a cloth off of Airin and it was a pleasure to deal with him to be honest! The first cloth he posted never arrived strangely, so I let him know and he sent me a replacement free of charge straight away! I personally think the cloth's really good, gets my cue really smooth and nice :snooker: The first cloth never did show up lol

I have been in contact with Airin/Richard and we are currently sorting my situation.
What I can establish is that he(they, whichever it is) has been seriously ill undergoing major surgery. I will update this when I have reached a conclusion on my situation.

Illness is a very good excuse. But same thing is unlikely happen to one person twice. He recovered from cancer after making pool cues and now after he had some snooker cues orders he serious sick again for 3-4 months .

I don't know how many people he asked to pay him in full for cue orders. But he asked me. However I figured out early and got my money back.

Yes, I did not receive any case from him and I have already paid for the case long time ago. I understand a guy brought a stock cue recently from Aurora cue and received it in Singapore. Airin or Richard, please come out to clarify the issues, and we still need to hear from you either a good cue or a refund.

Listen to Johnny. He is a very serious cue collector . He have dealed to most of the cue makers.
He has the best snooker cue collection I have ever seen so far. He is got Ronnie's 805 and many others highly collectible cues.

He is a really really nice and kind person.

I belive he won't say something bad unless he is really disappointment or upset.

the cues we brought are not reject cues. we paid the full price only a maple one is a reject on that one is only 350.
the rest are the regular cues he have. he made 3 12 splices cue for me and i picked the best one from the three.
the retail is 1200. but i think it doesn'e worse it.

you 12 spllices cue is one cue he made for my friedn. he also tried all 3 of them and picked the best one. he sold the rest to other people.

Richard told me that his work is MW quility at lower price which i really really don't think so.

he sold Johnny a case and never send it. but he told johnny he sent it and shipping company lost it. he then refund the money to johnny. he is actully sold the case to me as the shipping is too high than he expect to ship to johnny. \

he said he made 2 black one piece algator case. the truth is he only made one. he didn't send to johnny.

then he took the wax stamp off and put a new one on also he put my name plate in the case.
but i compare the case to his facebook pictures the grain print on the leather is defently same case.
i contact johnny he is never got the case.

thought of the day: i have bought literally 100's of mike wooldridge cues both direct from mike and second hand and i have never ever seen a crack in one yet, people on here have bought half a dozen cues and had a couple cracked from aurora....... just a thought on the quality thing.

Is this TSF or 'the usual suspects? Who is this Keyser Soze/Airin and when will TSF make the film, if TSF really exists that is......................?

The most amazing thing is people's willingness to buy a cue from someone they're not sure exists for £350 and more. Dave at Craftsman will make a spec cue for less than 300 according to some on here. So why bother with aurora or any other average cue maker on here or elsewhere when a good known cue maker will do a better job for less dosh, and deliver it in a great deal less than two(!) years. I may be new to the snooker world, but I'm not naive. Are folk paypalling the sellers with hard cash? I'd be looking for a Visa/MC guarantee myself, just in case ;-) As for paying 2000 for a cue, are you nuts? This is cue making and a craft it is too, but it's not cabinet making or something that complex and time consuming. I read on here that Judd Trump used a craftsman cue then got a Parris. Both cue makers are real. Always remember that Hendry won 7 world titles with a ten quid cue from a car boot, and the cue was pretty awful as cues go.

Has anyone else seen those ads for fancy cues on ebay, the one with dragons and all, case, mini-butt, etc included. They have burr and ebony butts, sometimes snakewood, cocobolo etc. Pictures of a cue maker and workshop. Made by 'Mathew' in Canada. And all for just a hundred quid. A friend bought one and loves it, thinks it's great value. Hmmmmm. If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Hi, I ended up searching through the forum posts and pool junkie is prolific. The pictures look great and that's the problem, folk seeing pics and being hooked into shopping.

At the end of the day ADR, whether bought from a car boot or shop, Hendry used a Powerglide cue that was top of the non-custom range, retailing about £120 at the time if memory serves me. I bought a Purist, as I was short of the dosh for the Conny, basically the same cue standard except for the splices and ash instead of maple. I still have it, they were great at the time because cue manufacture wasn't as advanced as it is now, and they were still only half the money of a custom cue from Powerglide. They were the best off the shelf cues one could buy in a sports shop. But Hendry's cue was too long for him. It was Hendry that made that cue work. It's still amazing he won so many titles with a cue that even in the day, was crap compared to custom made. The damn things were coated in thick, marine type varnish. Not the best to handle. The joints were single collar plastic and superior to todays brass joints, much more feel. The point is, he didn't spend 2000 on it, so all this talk of special order cues is nonsense. The most important part of the cue is the tip, and you've said that it actually doesn't matter if folk are using an elk or a moori, it's the player that makes the tip work too.

If folk wise up and avoid dodgy folk, trying to punt a lot of rubbish cues on to unsuspecting customers, and use known cue makers of repute they'll also save a long wait and a lot of money. As the cuefather wisely says in not so few words, folk on here building a business are mixing business with pleasure, which backfires. Any cue maker who makes cues that split in transit (nevermind playing) is a joke. Just as simple as that. It's bits of wood, that are glued and clamped together. This is basic stuff in any woodwork class at school. If they can't get this right, they shouldn't be making anything, not even paper aeroplanes. It doesn't matter how fancy the splices are, if the cue falls apart, the cue maker is rubbish. I can buy a machined spliced cue from BCE for twenty quid that will stay together better. I understand why folk want custom cues, it adds to the pleasure if one uses a cue designed for oneself and looks the way one wishes, so what's the biggie if it costs £600, it's still cheaper and healthier than folk smoking. A single golf club can cost as much as a custom cue, so it's hardly indulgence for a hobby that eats up so much of our time and effort. Just be careful guys, it's your hard earned money, don't waste it.

As for Aurora, the website and shop is active; take from that what you will. First rule of shopping; buyer beware.

It was a one-piece maple and it did seem a little long for him when I played him in 1984 or so at his home club when he was the Scottish amateur Champion for the second year running I believe and he was just about to turn 16 as I remember his father asking everyone what they thought was best for Stephen, go to University or turn pro.

As it turned out, my opinion worked out as I suggested he give the pro ranks a shot since he could always go to University later in life and a player usually only gets a good shot at pro when he's young where with University you can get a degree when you're in your 80's as some people do.

Powerglide Rex Williams signature Connoisseur Terry. In maple yes. Off the shelf cue, but as I said above, top of the Powerglide shop range at the time. The cue didn't come with beta blockers though...................................good old Rex.

Have a read at Forum Member Gem's post. The cue was bought from Millers (snooker club) in Broxburn outside Edinburgh. The club is still there today although has less tables.
Stephen used to practice at Millers when he was a lad.

I know there is a lot of stories about Stephen's cue but the "£10 car boot" one is rubbish. I believe Gem's account of things 100%. One of my old mates from years back also played at Millers and was "one of the many" who picked the balls out for Stephen. If I remember I'll ask him next time for his recollections of Stephens cue although as I say I'm pretty sure Gem's account is accurate.
