bigmeek and ADR:
I played Stephen at a club in Kirkaldy (not sure of spelling) just across the bridge from Edinburgh I believe and I think I remember I was told he practiced there but I can't remember the club's name. We did play on the front table as he had a lot of fans and of course I was the great unknown as it was my first tournament when I moved to Scotland. He blew me away 3-1 I believe and I can't remember if he had to give a start because he was the amateur champ.
I also played (practiced) with Stephen at Ian Doyle's club in Sterling (was it called Spencer's? - not sure) and I might have played him in their evening club tourney which was handicapped and I think I did well in that a couple of times (I was a better player in those days but nowhere near Stephen's class).
In June of 1985 my wife graduated and got her first physio job in Leicester so we moved to Glenfield, just outside. I used to practice at the Top Spot in Glenfield, who sponsored me on the pro-am circuit and I captained their league team and every once in awhile I got a call from Willie to come down and practice with him on his match table. In 1986 I won the Leicester County Champs, knocking off the favourite, Stephan Mazrocis (spelling again) in the semis much to the dismay of his dozens of fans from Willies. Only my wife was rooting for me and I got all the groans every time I made a ball or Stephan missed. It was a great time, playing in pro-ams almost every weekend along with Pontins and those Pro-Ticket tourneys usually held at Butlins.
