  • Cue buying advice

Got a snooker table installed last autumn (10 ft Aristocrat) and am now looking for a decent cue instead of the mediocre club cues that came with the table.

Unfortunately I don't have a billards dealer with a decent selection of cues anywhere near me, so I will have to buy one on the net.

I've been quite interested in Mike Wooldridge cues, but it appears that I would have to wait for ages to get one - especially as the more reasonably priced cues are out of stock.

Who should be my second choice for a cue at a price of not much above £200?

Also, one question of a more practical nature: is there any advantage in having a 2 pc cue as opposed to a 1 pc cue (other than transportability)?

Most players will say they prefer the feel they get from a 1 piece cue, however, it is merely a preference. I have used 3/4 cues and 1 piece and I can honestly say I didn't find one better to play with than another.
I have a couple of maple cues left from my current batch. Both 1 piece but I can also install a joint to make it 3/4.
Email me at richy1471@hotmail.com if you need anymore advice or would like to ask more about cues.

Phoenix at Craftsman Cues, or a Craftsman cue itself, or maybe a Sherwood by Cue Craft or another Cue Craft cue. There's plenty of choice if you've got £200. First port of call should be TSF's sponsor, John Parrot Cue Sports, lots of good deal there. You can get a lot for £200 now, and your cue should be every bit as playable as something costing 4 times as much.
Harder than you think is a beautiful thing.

If Raymond doesn't have what you're looking for then try Stu Green at greenbaize as he normally has a stock off 2-300 snooker cues and if you know what specs you're after he would have something to match.

Try mastercraft cues. They'll make you a cracking cue within your budget.

If you have limited room 3/4 is great for being able to unscrew the shaft and use just the shaft rather than raising the butt. Mastercraft and Craftsman cues also let u screw the mini butt into the shaft aswell as the butt so great for shots where you're obstructed. Its one advantage over 1 piece, personally I think there's more to the feel of a cue than just whether its jointed or not, the weight, balance and tip all make a difference. A well made 3/4 cue will feel just as good as a 1 piece imo

The black prince cue is plain ebony butt and starts at £168 for an ash shaft and all specs are custom at no extra charge but I've seen people on the forum get full custom designs cheaper than that. Email Dave at mastercraft or call and discuss what you'd like and I'm sure you'll be happy with the price quoted. Andy Travis is also making good cues around the £200 mark

Both currently just over 58", 9.6mm and 30mm butt. Weight is 18oz and 17.5oz.
18oz one has ebony butt thick maple veneer and ebony splice, other one plain ebony. Pictures are available and spec can be altered to choice, within reason.

Mate, their no.6 is an art work that reminds me of the 20s/30s design. It is simply beautiful. I think I want one! Oh no, cue porn strikes.

Very different for sure, like no other you'll see in any club or venue. Got a soft spot for two-tone. Now if I ordered that off Mastercraft and asked them not to put a ferrule or tip on the cue, and also asked them to send it direct to MW with my name and address on it.......................
