  • TO ALL MEMBERS!!! Need help with a Peradon cue

I have received a cue from a client who wants the original coating removing and have a wax finish applied.
It is a one piece peradon cue, that was bought through a snooker club, but supplied to the club from Dave Coutts.
Problem is upon removing the top coat, there is some very obvious fillings in the ebony butt, and these stand out massively and will show up in any finish that I apply.
I have contacted Peradon, but they are saying that this is not normal and that also this is not a standard cue!
i asked them what this means, and they came back with that all of there cues have a name designating the specific cue on the name plate. Is this true? have all peradon cues always had this? if any one can either tell me what the cue is, or if they know of different with regards to the name plates.
the cue also looked as though it was painted under the top coat so as to make the ebony (which is the browner version) look dark black.
please help as it is supposed to be a present for the clients daughter this weekend.
first two photos show the poor filling.

    That's shocking.

I've seen it before on other cues. Usually your Argos specials that some of my beginners bring me. On a few occasions I've stripped the paint off and uncovered the grey menace. I'm sure it's the same bonding stuff that they use on car body work.

To see it on any cue over £25 value is low. Really low. You could spend a lot of time trying to sort that and not get a nice result.

Only options I see are to lay the black stain on heavy (not what I'd be comfortable with) or just explain to your client that some people will try to squeeze every penny out of the unsuspecting customer.

My ebony is rarely perfect black but I don't care. If its got some colouring in it then celebrate it I say.

    Good luck to you

TO ALL MEMBERS!!! Need help with a Peradon cue

Drill, chip, scrape it out however you can.

Sand up some ebony into the finest dust you can.

Mix dust with wood glue to a smooth paste.

        Fill in the void.

        Leave to dry.

Try to cut, plane, sand the filler to match the shape of the cue.

Not a great solution but it should holdup over time and if you do it well enough it should be hard to spot after you apply the top coat.

Not saying this is will work but if I was backed into a corner that's what I'd try

To be fair to Peradon, their cues do have name plates so this could be a fake. Whoever sold it should offer a full refund, that's taking the P1$$. As for Peradon, if some of their cues with name plates sanded down to this, it would not surprise me given recent posts. I really don't understand why folk would spend £170 on something like this; snap purchase I guess. £170 should have bought something suitable for sinking a 147 in the right hands.

We've had another member on here this week, with problems with his first Peradon; knotted shaft. Then they send him a replacement with the shaft unfinished, no oil, no varnish, nothing. Buyers beware of rubbish cues.

. . although if it IS a fake, your stinking email should be directed at the seller, and not Peardon . . .

              Either way, I'd contact seller 1st . .

thing is though, this was supplied to the cue club by Dave Coutts, a very well respected cue maker. and i am confident in saying that he would not sell any fake as he prides himself on his reputation. this is why I have gone to peradon directly!

I see where you are coming from, but your contract of sale is with the cue club, and not Dave Coutts, or Peardon.

Too many links in the chain of buying / seling to go straight to Peardon IM ( and only my ) HO.

The current range of cues all have badges that have the name of the cue model.
The cue in the picture does not match any of the current range.
As they have said, it is not a standard cue, either it could have been a custom cue via their CueWizard tool, but doubt a custom cue would go to a club for a rack cue, ?
I am not sure about older cues but I am sure that badges were not marked with the model name in years past.
