  • Researching the history of my fathers cue.

Hi all, I'm a new member who joined today and I did put a post in newbie's but thought id also place my specific Cue question within the Cue section of the forum.

I inherited my fathers cue about 17 years ago and he had it for many years prior to this. I believe it to be hand made as it has irregular splicing on it and is curved at the peaks rather than sharp. It is a one piece Cue and measures roughly 57 inches from bottom to top of Ferrule. it weighs in at 16oz it has a rough measurement of 25mm Circumference giving it a Diameter of about 8mm this is rough as I'm using a ruler and pencil to get the circumference

The diameter of the butt is 30mm giving it a circumference of about 94.2 mm.

    Now for the identifier.

It has a separate section of wood at the butt which is lighter in colour and has a cannon facing right with a scroll type banner underneath and this reads "Ye OLDE ASH Cue"

I would be more than happy to supply photographs of the cue and the wood if this is needed.

Hopefully someone can help me out here as this cue means a lot to me and knowing its history would make it that little bit more special.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully someone will reply to me with some further advice.

Not a super expert on cues. But i can most certainly tell u that your fathers cue isnt an ordinary cue

You can look at my website, and run a quick search. Or use the forum's search function for it. Or look at David Smith's cues and views site.

It's not the sought after Burroughes & Watts Ye Olde Ash cue mate, it's made by Cannon cues, still fairly rare but not in the same league value wise, sorry

Whoops, clearly reading a post at breakneck speed while on a date isn't a good idea afterall. Deeply apologise.

i have looked at the cannon cues and their logo is different. Their cannon is facing to the left and pointing upwards. This cannon is like a cannon you would find on an old warship and is facing to the right. Unless Cannon use different logos?

It would be nice if someone could post my picture of the logo to this topic on my behalf if possible? I cant as i'm a new member

          Thanks Again.

ok lets see if this works.

                  http://i699.photobucket.com/albums/v...05/image22.jpg

The first one is the main image that should hopefully identify it.

Regarding Value and without sounding ungrateful. I am not interested whatsoever in a price as this Cue will most definitely never be sold by myself. It carries too much sentimental value for me to ever part with it. I would just love to know where it came from? Who made it possibly?

Thanks again Guys. All Help appreciated.

i think they were made by peradon in the late 70's early 80's - can't remember when peradon bought the canon name - maybe give andy hunter a call. i have seen a fair few of these cues so they are not rare but could well be a collectable of the future.

ADR, How would I get hold of Andy Hunter? Do you think this cue is a cannon then? Even though it is a different style cannon logo?
