    Well just an update, cue maker replied asking me to try applying linseed oil using a tooth brush, tried this a few times today, but still the same thing.

        sand it right back and do it yourself. sounds to me like whatever finish is protecting the white flecks.

          If it already has a finish you may just be putting linseed oil over a waterproof varnish. Please keep us updated, be interested to know how this is resolved.

            I wouldn't be one for doing that, it wouldn't take much to make a complete balls of it.

              it's not as hard as people make it out to be - especially if you are only doing one cue!

                Im quite amazed that the maker isnt offering to have the cue back and sort out the problem. Refinishing a new cue is not something that a customer should be expected to do, thats what you paid for in the beginning.

                  I agree with adr and jason,

                  If trying it yourself option, stick to 1000-2000 grit and u should be fine.

                  The other thing to try could be craftsman or jacobean wax.

                    Well he got in contact today, cue is going back to get checked over and fixed once and for all Was only really a weekend long issue.
